Pawlenty Criticizes Bachmann’s Record (T-Paw goes for the throat on the Sunday talk shows)

On Meet the Press this morning, former Minnesota governor Tim Pawlenty took a swipe at fellow presidential candidate Rep. Michele Bachmann (R., Minn.).

“I like Congresswoman Bachmann. I’ve campaigned for her. I respect her. But her record of accomplishment in Congress is non-existent,” he said. “We’re not looking for folks who just have a speech capability.”

Bachmann is a major threat to Pawlenty in Iowa, where a Des Moines Register poll puts his support at only 6 percent — and Bachmann’s at 22 percent.

If her record of accomplishment was nil, why did he campaign for her? Does he not hear himself talking out both sides of his mouth?

Jim DeMint was on Laura Ingraham’s show this morning and was not happy with T-Paw’s comment. He’s going to have to back up his criticisms. Especially since the majority of time Bachmann was in congress the Dems were in control. And I doubt tea party voters are going to care that Bachmann doesn’t hold a Leadership position in the House. In fact they probably see that as a plus!

In the race to the bottom and the exit sign, TP is rounding the far turn and pulling away from Newt.

Well Pawlenty was governor longer than Palin so I guess that makes him more qualified than her, right?

"He's got executive experience while she's got bupkis. He's more qualified. PERIOD."

By the time the election comes, Obama will have had 4 years of executive experience at the PRESIDENTIAL level. Does that make him more qualified than Sarah? It would if you are going to use this as a single barometer of qualification.

Sounds like he’s a dumbass. This early in the campaign you do not attack other candidates, nor do you patronize them, criticize them, or mess with them in any way. Instead you use your precious time to talk about issues that the voters will support you over.

Pawlenty's point is very valid and in the end will be her undoing. 5 years in Congress , never ran a town or state and has never ran a business. She is not qualified for the job and just having words does not cut it and just because the democrats made the mistake of putting an empty suit with good words in the WH does not mean we should do it too. Obama got away with it , the media will destroy Bachmann for it later.

No, he misses the point. In normal times executive experience and managerial competence may be enough. These are not normal times. We are in the middle of a spending crisis that threatens to destroy our civilization. Putting so much emphasis on managerial competence reminds me of the fascists in Italy bragging that they could “make the trains run on time”. What we need more than anything else now is a leader with a willingness to take a chainsaw to the federal budget. If that person has executing experience as well, all the better. Frankly, I do not see very many potential candidates who fill both criteria. Some think that Perry does and I hope they are right, butt am not fully convinced yet.

T-paw is basically just a Lutheran version. . . .

Pawlenty is not a Lutheran, afaik. On the other hand, Bachmann is (or, until recently, has been) a Lutheran.

We haven't had a Lutheran president since the very first one, John Hanson.

I stand corrected. I looked him up and he is listed as Baptist/Evangelical. Since he was from Minnesota, I just assumed he was Lutheran.

FWIW, John Hanson was the 9th president of the Continental Congress. Since he was from Maryland, I assumed he was Roman Catholic. But with a name like Hanson, I had to look him up. Sure enough, he's a descendant of Swedes so he has to be Lutheran.

Now, I've got to wonder how Pawlenty played hockey and got elected governor of Minnesota as a Baptist . . .
