And deep, too.

...What I just don’t get...is everything seems to be coming down to 10 or 12 people determining the plans and deciding what the score is going to be...it’s as though we have no Congress at all...

That's what the MSM wants you to think. And of those 12, Obama is the one who sees the way.

The truth is that Obama is irrelevant.

He was unnecessarily inserted into a process where he was not needed. Anything that Obama agrees to has to be passed in both the House and the Senate, and then go to his desk.

This is just an opportunity to grandstand, that was handed to him by the Republicans, again.

So, if the President can raise the debt ceiling over the objection of Congress by vetoing their disapproval, than how is Congress not abrogating their Constitutional duty? This sounds like a horrible plan from a separation of powers perspective!

So then it’s simply staging...so then why are the Republicans even playing this instead of getting down to business???? Why don’t they just decline...end of story?

I know this might sound nieve, though I understand the republicans “like” the stage too, but if you have identified an enemy of the people, who is not looking out for the peoples interests, then why in God’s name are you playing in their ballpark?...especially since it’s well established where Obama wants to take this country and the Republicans know that.

Ok...that said...and a hard pill for me to swallow...is the Republican Party Are them.

I’m fast approaching that as well....if they are going to play the Obama game...and not do what we sent them there to do...then why am I even voting for for the Republican Party...when it’s apparent it’s fast a party favoring democrates...and the fight is simply a front for us all to swallow.

Can you imagine working for a company that has a little more than 500 employees and has the following statistics:

1. 29 have been accused of spousal abuse
2. 7 have been arrested for fraud
3. 19 have been accused of writing bad checks
4. 117 have directly or indirectly bankrupted at least 2 businesses
5. 3 have done time for assault
6. 71 cannot get a credit card due to bad credit
7. 14 have been arrested on drug-related charges
8. 8 have been arrested for shoplifting
9. 21 are currently defendants in lawsuits
10. 84 have been arrested for drunk driving in the last year

Can you guess which organization this is?

Give up yet?

It’s the 535 members of the United States Congress. The same group of idiots that crank out hundreds of new laws each year designed to keep the rest of us in line.

“No new taxes, period.:

I’ve been thinking about that. Suppose it came down to passing a new budget with $4 trillion in spending cuts with social security and medicare being put on firm financial footing and all we had to give up in exchange was that the hedge fund managers lost their right to be taxed at less than half the rate everyone else pays. Wouldn’t we agree to that?

Me, second to third party. GOP & DEM just ping pong each others for fun. Sadly, we only have a hand full of conservative in the senate and the house.

Will someone in Congress PLEASE ramp up a no confidence vote on Bonehead and replace him ASAP with Allen West?

And the worst part is if the Republicans gain a majority in the Senate, you just know he'll still be in the catbird seat.

The only good thing I can say about this whole sorry affair is that my loathing for my two Senators, Snowe and Collins, has been temporarily replaced by my loathing for McConnell.

I tend to agree with an earlier suggestion that Mitch McConnell’s remarks may be little more than a trial balloon.

But I also have a darker theory... For McConnell to be publicly putting this “Plan B” position on the table could suggest that perhaps he and John Boehner have truly come to grips with the deeply sinister nature of Barry Soetoro Obama. They’re realizing what his harshest critics on the Right have been hysterically warning against since ‘08.... that Obama really is a diabolical madman who seeks total destruction and chaos of the United States one way or another and really doesn’t give a damn. Much like The Joker as portrayed by Heath Ledger.

That’s the only way McConnell’s bizarre plan could seem to make any sense. It’s like he’s seen Obama with a can of gasoline and a Zippo lighter and now wants to get the hell out of the building before it goes up in flames.

I think the House needs to pass a plan with deep front-loaded spending cuts, some closed tax loopholes, and no more than a MINIMAL raising of the debt ceiling and then let the Democrats be forced to vote on it. If they oppose it, the GOP can charge that the Dems refuse to balance the budget, rein in spending, and are willing to risk default all because they deemed it more important to raise everybody’s taxes during a bad economy.

We should have abandoned the Republican Party a long time ago.

It could be a “trial balloon” or perhaps just a way to say “well, we did have a backup...” which they know won’t fly but can say they had one.

Instead, if I were a major GOP player in Congress, I would have called a press conference to state that “If Social Security payments fail to go out next month, it’s all the President’s decision...” and explain why.

It’s not that difficult to (rightfully) pin this nothingburger (since they are NOT going to forego paying SS benefits) right back on Obama.

The problem with that is simple (and an illustration of why Medicare is going broke in the first place):

Good luck finding an insurance policy for a 65 year old for $408/mo.

I’m NOT disagreeing with the problem, just throwing out a wrench in your plan.

The word ‘Congress’ often has a dual meaning. Many use Congress to refer only to the House of Representatives. But the word Congress has been used since our government was formed to sometimes refer to the two Legislative Branches of our government. I prefer to use just House and Senate whenever I can instead of ‘Congress’ in order to be clear.

I post this whenever appropriate... The Fall 2012 Elections may work to get obama out of office... but waiting that long may not be possible. We have spineless Republicans that look obama’s wrongdoing in the face - some new fiasco nearly every day and yet will do nothing. On 9/12/2009 the Tea Party folks and others got one (1) Million people to March on DC with only a few months to prepare. Glenn Beck got about that many in October 2010. Both demonstrations were very impressive. I attended 9/12/09 - it was massive (despite what the Leftist new media said). We need to shut DC down and here is how we do it. We get 3 to 4 Million people in DC on Sunday 9/11/11 - protest and demonstrate and just do not leave for two weeks if necessary. We clog the DC streets and everything comes to halt. We scare the spineless Republicans into doing something - or resign. We demand obama’s resignation. No police force - no army can move 3 to 4 million people who do not want to be moved. We can have a Velvet Revolution ... it has been done before. Non violent - peaceful resistance - civil disobedience as necessary.

You guys are all missing the point here. You have a petulant child in the WH backed by petty adults in the House and Senate. So how do you handle this issue, simple. You lay it all at their feet. You don’t vote to raise the debt ceiling you vote to let the President and his democrat friends slit their own throat if they so desire. You know the Bambster won’t be able to resist the temptation to go ever higher with the debt and the Republicans can vote against it every time he tries. At the end of the day next November you have a record to run on, the Dems are for ever higher debt and the Republicans are against same. If the people really agree with us then they have a clear choice. They put someone new in the WH and give the Senate to the GOP and then we get to do what needs to be done.

Keep in mind the GOP is not just fight an intransigent president they are also fighting an adversarial press who is the tank for the Dems. If SS checks don’t go out it won’t be the WH who takes the hit.

Would I rather we have huge spending cuts and a balanced budget, yes, but remember we only control 1/3 of the government and almost none of the press.
