Sometimes the truth is so effing obvious, even a Liberal can spot it. It’s a dumb idea AND a cave.

I hope it so dumb that the Boehner and House Republicans say NO WAY to this bad idea. Call your congresscritter and tell them NO WAY do you want McConnells plan B.
The House needs to pass the debt ceiling increase with cuts only and hand it to the Senate to pass. Case closed.

2.5 trillion more debt for less than 18 months???

So the message that the senate Repubs are sending is: Keep on rolling! Spend just as much as you are now and cut nothing.

As a voter, first thing to cut are these idiots.

Maybe the GOP will also give 0bama the authority to cancel the 2012 presidential election while they are at it.

There’ll be certain Tea Party GOPers I’ll vote for. But I’m done with these establishment a-holes. They don’t fight for our interests.

How to defeat Obama? Hope that a scandal of huge magnitude crashes down on him (”Fast and Furious?”). I know hope isn’t a strategy, but with the GOP “leadership” handing him a huge victory today, I find myself left grasping.

I’ve ripped into the GOP leadership more times than I care to remember, but honestly, I don’t have a problem with this from a tactical perspective (provided it’s handled properly) under the circumstances.

The problem that we’re facing is that the original proposed cuts have been scaled down to $2 Trillion or so, and of course, the Dems will stand ground claim that it’s only half that, or less- so splitting it down the middle, you’re looking at $1.5 Trillion perhaps (and they need to get to $2.4 T). Because $2.4 Trillion over a decade is a drop in the bucket really, it’s not worth making any concessions now on our side to get to that total.

I think the GOP should use a two-pronged approach: Go for even bigger cuts in “Plan A”- knowing that Obama is going to reject it anyways. Then make Plan B look “reasonable” (throw in a few Federal buildings to sell for “revenues”, etc.), and pass it at the last minute. You get $700 B in cuts now, with second and third opportunities to go for more cuts down the road (*And I’d much rather have $700B in real cuts now than a bunch of phony “cuts” in a supposed $2.4 T proposal- especially if tax hikes are the price).

If Obama vetos plan B, he owns it. If he signs it, hammer him even harder the next time this comes up. I don’t like this idea of continually kicking the can down the road, but if it can be used to extract political leverage against Obama- that’s about all we can ask for at this point.

Yes it was. I think the move by McConnell is a smarter one from a political standpoint than the knee jerk crowd here may have considered. This means that the democrats can vote to raise the debt ceiling without a single Republican vote. They own it, they get all the blame. Personally, if push came to shove I don't think the democrats would go for it. It sure would be fun to see them back peddle after having described how important raising the debt ceiling was.

From the standpoint of governance, however, McConnell's plan is a sad statement. It basically says that the Republicans are not going to fight with Obama and will leave it to the electorate to decide in 2012. Great, so if I get this straight the game is difficult (due to the MSM being in this guys camp and other factors) so McConnell purposes refusing to play until the rules/players change. Hey, nothing like quitting as a strategy. Win or lose, fight to the end and fight for what you believe in.

Just like when the Russians essentially ordered the GOP senaturds to vote “yes” on START... McConnell bends over and grabs the ankles.

I’m so damned disgusted with that party.

McConnell is frightened of the coming “REPUBLICANS WANT OILD PEOPLE TO EAT ALPO!” attacks that are surely coming.

If you’ve been paying attention to some of the vile hate already coming the DC Republicans way from the left and the media over SS and Medicare in the last few weeks, you can see why he’s scared to take a strong stand.

REMEMBER, these people live in a bubble. especially the Senate.

Remember when McConnell said that the GOP would move Obama to the center? Why do these guys ever even open their mouths. They can’t back up @#$%.

They are trying to be too clever by half. The public will consider Obama the winner and the Reps the loser. Essentially, Obama gets to have a clean raise of the debt ceiling, their objective all along. And the Reps look weaker and without principles. And why now offer such a deal?

After this maneuver there will be no chance of defeating 0bama in 2012. This is developing like it did with Hitler in Germany. The power brokers let him become the Prime Minister and then they couldn't get rid of him.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, despicable as they are... at least FIGHT for their agenda. They never quit battling their enemy. I wish GOP “leaders” had their tenacity.

I know. He just handed Obama victory on a platter. Voters will NOT respect a loser; they like winners. And Obama, when up against the GOP, always.... ALWAYS wins.

I wrote on another thread earlier that I didn’t trust McConnell and Boner.

Guess I was right to be concerned.

This could have been so easy to hang the deficit around Zer0’s neck. How could they screw it up???

"Replacing Obama with a big government GOP RINO is not a victory."

I beg to differ - at least Bush didn't destroy the economy.
