I looked up the murder rate for the world. 490K in 2004 for the last year comprehensive data was available. Assuming things are somewhat the same today there would be about 1500 murders in this world daily. News does travel faster these days but we get a very selected amount from our news organs. This murder we know about because of where it happened and certain aspects that make it deemed to be newsworthy.

Yikes! That’s one per minute - just under 1% of all deaths.

That may seem like a lot, but in hunter-gatherer societies of the type we all sprang from, death by homicide is close to 25% of total death rate.
