Looks like Republicans have prevailed in Minnesota. Governor Mark Dayton has “reluctantly” agreed to the GOP’s June 30th budget proposal and will call a special session to pass it in three days, ending the state shutdown started by his veto of the budget proposed in May:
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton sent a letter Thursday to House Speaker Kurt Zellers and Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch, saying he “reluctantly” agrees to accept the Republican budget proposal from June 30 if it will end the government shutdown.
Dayton said accepting the offer would bridge a $1.4 billion gap between him and the Republican leadership. The governor says he has “serious reservations” about the GOP plan, but Minnesota’s government shutdown must end.
“If this gets resolved and gets Minnesota back to work in the next few days, then it doesn’t matter what people say about me,” Dayton said.

This entire Minnesota shutdown was orchestrated by Obama, just as the Wisconsin budget fight was, as well.

As mentioned in the other thread on this topic (and at Powerline, among other places), the deferred payment to schools was actually a Dayton proposal, not the GOPs. The Star and Sickle has been told this repeatedly and refuses to report this information correctly.
Still, though, to see Marx Dayton crying ‘uncle’ is great news for my state.
The national Democrat Party told Dayton to cave. Every day the Minnesota government was shut down without chaos and rioting in the streets was disproving their insistence that the world would end if Washington did the same.

Dayton, who is offering to drop his proposal to raise top-tier income taxes, said he doesn’t like the Republican way out of the budget impasse.
“However, despite my serious reservations about your plan, I have concluded that continuing the state government shutdown would be even more destructive for too many Minnesotans,” he said in a letter to GOP leaders that he read aloud before a University of Minnesota audience.
“Therefore, I am willing to agree to something I do not agree with - your proposal - in order to spare our citizens and our state from further damage,” he added.

I grew up in MN, lived there for 30 years. But I am glad not to be there now. As kind, nice and hard-working as most Minnesotans are - and it’s true, they are - they have an annoying and inexplicable habit of picking loons (maybe to underscore the fact that it is the state bird) to hold high office. Just when one thought they had reached the zenith of craziness by electing an “imaginative” pro wrestler as governor, they turned around and elected a washed-up, long-ceased-to-be-funny, ethically-challenged pro comedian as senator. Now, in many ways, they did themselves one better (worse) by electing the (incompetent and heavily medicated) scion of the fabled department store empire (whose family wisely has kept his hands off the levers of control of the company), and only U.S. Senator to leave D.C. because it was too dangerous, as their governor.
As I said, it is to me inexplicable. It has more to do with “nice” than either kind or hard-working. Maybe this time they have learned ... sorry, I was born an optimist.
