Skip to comments.Obama Seeking Emergency Camp David Meeting, Boehner Just Says No
Posted on 07/14/2011 10:00:34 AM PDT by Nachum
In the most dramatic example of someone give the teleprompter the finger on the debt target (f/k/a debt ceiling, in the pre Federal Reserve days), after earlier it was announced that Obama, so willing to continue the charade, was pushing for a Camp David meeting where the debt ceiling issue would be resolved, bunch-of-fat-old-men-locked-up-in-a-room-nobody-leaving-until-solution-is-reached style, Reuters reports that Boehner has politely refused this latest farcical denouement, and told the White House "that he sees no need to move the negotiations on debt and deficits to Camp David." In other news, it is now 7 days and counting until July 22.
House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner, the top U.S. Republican, has told the White House that he sees no need to move the negotiations on debt and deficits to Camp David.
"The speaker has told the White House he sees no need to go to Camp David this weekend," Boehner spokesman Brendan Buck said on Thursday.
The White House had been weighing the idea of Camp David talks but no decision had been made and White House aides said there were "currently no plans for that."
“has told the White House he sees no need to go to Camp David this weekend,”
I didn’t think it was possible to surgically implant an entire spinal column into a human being.
Someone here posted that Obama would go to the mattresses (mafia term). Camp David was the equivalent.
Whitehouse meetings are on record. Deals struck with unions on the back nine are shared between Obama, union heads, and squirrels. The squirrels can't write notes or speak.
He lost it playing online poker.
I wonder if this really is quite a drama playing out in our time.
Bernyakme is joining in on the scare tactics and trying to TARP this all over again. Imminent collapse and all that. The local financial pundit here in Houston has been trying to make this a case of true default as a result of not raising the debt ceiling. It is a crisis but the company ain’t broke, the company (Federal Govenrment) is going to have to really scale back to satisfy the lending agency... the electorate. Once the company does that the lending agency will provide it room to move and recover... not until.
Yes, indeed it is. There are a slew of new and upcoming surgical procedures that will be used more and more, and the "surgeons" get more and more experienced with these techniques the more they practice them. Some of the new procedures include:
|Wow A spine, Never though I would see one of those on a Republican.|
This is good; there is no reason to make the GOP feel beholden by pretending to be a magnanimous host for a getaway weekend. Sounds like a power move. Jerk.
Boehner should send Obama a case of MN Governor Mark Dayton’s favorite beer
They need spine neckties like that just to remind them.
That big W imprinted on Obama’s forehead is becoming obvious in every picture. Hah!
Anyone remind Obama that we have coequal branches of government? Or was that the part they taught at Occidental College when he flunked out of school, just prior to his genius streak?
I don’t think Boner can refuse. After all wasn’t he “summoned” by Maobama?
Didn’t Stalin ‘summon’ his generals to his palace to ‘dance’ for him, before they were executed?
I like that idea.
I say call a press conference and give it to Mr. Dithers with both barrels.
I like that idea.
Boehner is stepping up - great.
I’m thinking that the interesting thing here is that Camp David is really on the POTUS side of the fence so why go there and be stuck there for the entire weekend?
“The squirrels can’t write notes or speak.”
They can with a squirrelprompter.
Would love to have see zero’s tantrum when he heard NO!
“Boehner is stepping up - great.”
No he is not stepping up. His statement is all defense. What a wasted opportunity. Even Pelosi turned this down. Let’s see what Boehner says after the 45 minute meeting with barry today. Anything less than “The President has no scorable plan” is not good enough.
Um, we don't know what Boehner is talking about, yeah, that's the ticket! We didn't say anything about Camp David, yeah... How can he say no to something we didn't even have plans for?! Yeah, that's it! The nerve of the Senate leader inviting himself and then declining his own invitation... yeah...
I think you are seeing the pubbies getting a spine lately because of the following things:
1. The seriously of the situation
2. It is against the their/constituent principles
3. The incompetance of Hussien and his administration
4. The dangerous beliefs of the administration
5. The stability of Hussien
I think that the last 3 items have become more and more clear in the past year and especially since the GOP won the House. I bet Boyner and other Repubs are seeing, first hand, an unstable man in the White House. They should not deal with him.
Probably a fair approximation to the reality of his behavior in der Fuehrer Bunker.
You're right. ZERO didn't like the fact that Eric Cantor spoke to the press yesterday after the One's temper tantrum.
He apparently knows BS when he sees it.
I've always believed that saloon keepers have greater insight into human nature than most psychiatrists and psychologists with all their theorizing.
Actually, I like the word ‘seriousaty’, or ‘seriousatude’, myself.
Like the saying of the past, “Just say no” — to taxes. (the drug of choice pushed by Dems.)
Opps.....personal review.....FAIL. LOL
When Clinton was in office “going to the mattress” had a completley different meaning.
Let's see if they actually have the spine to hold the line. If they hold firm and the deadline passes, when the world does not end they will be vindicated.
Everybody, email/call Boehner and tell him..CALL A PRESS CONFERENCE NOW! GET TO THE PUBLIC BEFORE OBOZO DOES AND TELL THEM IN CLEAR LANGUAGE WHAT IS HAPPENING NOW!
To be specific, Mr. Obama lied when he threatened on July 12 that there wouldn't be enough money to send out Social Security checks on August 3 if the debt ceiling isn't raised.
The federal government receives more than $200 billion in tax revenue a month. Interest on federal debt per month is $29 billion. Social Security costs per month are about $49 billion. Medicare and Medicaid about $50 billion. Active duty military personnel and veterans programs some $2.9 billion each. Those monthly costs add up to around $134 billion - which leaves $66 billion per month left over.
The problem is - and get ready for this - the federal government is spending $108 billion more than it takes in every month now. The CBO estimates are that Washington spent $973 billion more, which means borrowed, than it received for the first nine months of FY2011. The Demagogues are digging the hole we're in $108 billion deeper every month - and they say the only way out is to keep digging and borrowing more!
I say no. I say this has to stop. Which is why I must admit I am keenly disappointed by my fellow Republicans in the House leadership, whom I feel have been suckered into a red herring trap on this.
They keep proposing ridiculous alternatives to Mr. Obama's impossibly destructive demand to raise both the debt ceiling and taxes - such as "entitlement reform," and agreeing to raise the debt ceiling by trillions right now in exchange for what Congressman Allen West appropriately terms "fairy dust" cuts in spending years from now.
I feel what they need to insist on is spending reform right now. As we saw in the numbers above, this requires the following actions by the House:
*Refusing to raise the debt ceiling. (Remember that only the House has the Constitutional authority to raise it, or indeed to authorize any and all spending by the federal government.)
*Specifying that the approximately $200 billion in monthly federal revenues be first spent as itemized above (debt interest payment, Social Security, et al).
*Negotiating with Mr. Obama on how the remaining some $66 billion in monthly revenues should be prioritized. This is the only discussion the House leadership should be having with Mr. Obama.
The discussion should go something like this. Mr. Obama, you've been spending $174 billion a month beyond the most essential priorities of debt service, Social Security, etc., and as of next month, you'll only have $66 billion. As Commander-in-Chief, a most basic responsibility of yours is to provide for the national defense, so a significant fraction of that $66 billion must go to the Pentagon. How do you propose to spend what's left, realizing that a majority of the House has to agree?
I think we should give it a few more days before we start saying Republicans have spines.....I fear a cave-in is coming.
Wagyu steers everywhere breathe a sigh of relief.
The Repubs need to insist that at the next meeting nobama present a plan. No plan, no meeting. Even better, have him just submit it to them, let them have a few days to peruse it and then have a meeting.
Time for the Repubs to insist on a move off dead center.
“No means no.”
