Is there any logical reason that Social Security and Medicare should be considered more important for the government to pay than any of the other things included in the spending bills that were passed into law?
By law certain things are going to have to be paid. Given these are entitlement programs it may be they are in line first before other things.
Is there any logical reason that Social Security and Medicare should be considered more important for the government to pay than any of the other things included in the spending bills that were passed into law?Long term, no difference. Short term, big difference. Drastically reducing this without ample time to allow people to prepare hurts the most vulnerable in our society. That is why most reform focuses on altering the structure gradually in these programs - raising the retirement age gradually over the course of a decade allows people to adjust and reduces financial exposure.
