Actually, I'd be tempted to approach "them" and ask how "they" qualified for a plural pronoun all by "themselves."

But, unfortunately, not particularly new.
In 1988, when I reported to Ft. Sill (Oklahoma) for Artillery Officer training, I walked into the restroom of the Officer Student Battalion (OSB) building and was immediately confronted with a poster on the wall.
A large finger was pointed directly at me, with the words, “Rape. Don’t Even Think About It.” in large print.
It was still there in 1991.
Yep, that’s what the DOD and The Army think of me.

Although if they sleep through it (as opposed to being passed out), you may be doing it wrong.
