"We're broke but the sex wasn't half bad."

In March bankruptcy filings, the $200,000 govt employees said they owed $4.5 million. They claimed assets of a checking account with $400. The Evans' had walked away from commercial leases, loans, credit card bills and big mortgages, and faced lawsuits against themselves, their companies and a tax-exempt not-for-profit foundation Regina Evans founded called “We Are Our Brother’s Keeper.”

They faced foreclosure on several properties, didn’t show up for numerous lawsuit hearings, resulting in hefty judgments. And one of their own attorneys dropped them, telling a Cook County judge he couldn’t get them to answer his correspondence.

Before Regina's hiring as police chief was finalized, L/E officials conducted a background check on her. The deputy commander sent out a memo, obtained by Sun-Times Media, saying the search’s results advised against the hire. It is also believed her applications were falsified.

BACKSTORY After retiring from the Chicago Police Department, the Evans' decided to restore the historic New Regal Theater on 79th Street in Chicago, paying $2.36 million in 2008 with the help of a free $1.9 million city loan. Their Prime Time Group also received a $200,000 "loan" from CEDA of Cook County. Two other state grants were believed to be funded by the Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity.

CEDA attorney Joel Handler said the couple didn’t pay the loan back or hire any of the people the money was supposed to pay for. Prime Time got a state check up front, then failed to turn in required documents. Even before she got the money, she failed to present required invoices. CEDA is trying to free itself from the Evans' bankruptcy scam. It became clear Evans and Prime Time never intended to repay tax dollars.

" You gotta save Chicago from scorn---give the Evans a billion dollar bailout."

There was certain South Suburbs 'we' always avoided. County Club Hills was one, Dolton another. And E. 79th Street in Chicago .. fugetaboutit, that's been tribal country for 50 years.

Oak Forest and Tinley Park were about it for the South Suburbs. (I was just in Oak Forest last week for a Wake and a Funeral, still ok)
