I wouldn’t say this film shows disloyalty. Tanks are almost useless at close range in a crowd. The Syrians appeared to stay in the tanks. To do anything about the crowd they’d have to expose themselves and mount the machine guns. I’ll bet that crowd could have picked off machine gunners in a heartbeat. Tanks need some range between them and the target before they can be effectively used. If I were a nasty Syrian officer, I’d have had them in retreat until I was in a better position. BTW, moving the tanks 10 feet would have killed people. I’d say sitting tight and waiting it out were the best options.
