Protestents think Catholics aren’t true Christians....
Catholics think all other Christians aren’t true Christians
Baptists think they are the only path...
Mormons believe they are Christian....
Jews don’t care about Christians.....
Muslims....well there muslim.....

Each church or religion believes it is the only path to G-d, otherwise they would be...well...Unitarian... :^)

Michelle Bachman isn’t running for head of her church nor are we a theocracy....

Bachman is a good person and not a bigot....she’s running for president of the United States and has displayed good values....This should be the basis of a qualification...

The author of this article is trying to tear apart any support she may garner by instituting infighting amoung Republicans and a lot of people on this thread are taking the bait....

I see what James Madison was getting at:

"Happily for the states, they enjoy the utmost freedom of religion. This freedom arises from that multiplicity of sects, which pervades America, and which is the best and only security for religious liberty in any society."

James Madison, Virginia Ratifying Convention, 12 June 1788

Almost all Protestant candidates would fail scrutiny by this standard because by doctrine and history, Protestantism is anti-Catholic, and sometimes obnoxiously so. Yet as citizens and Christians, we are properly obliged by civic responsibility and Christian charity to find common ground with Protestants. And we are obliged not to aggravate old wounds and to hope and pray that, with the grace of God and guidance of the Holy Spirit, Christians may in time find greater unity.

Considering she left that church just before she announced, I figure she knew it was a clear case.

If you go to a church where doctrine is espoused that the Pope is the Anti-Christ, it's fair to say you have some 'splaining to do in the context of a Presidential election.

That's not to say it's worse than Obama and Wright, it's not.

But when you ascribe the foundation of evil to a sect/religion that 20-25% of the people in the country believe in...you got some 'splaining to do.

Michele Bachmann Should Not 'Get a Pass' on Past Membership in Anti-Catholic Church

Why not? All the anti-Catholic Catholics in the Obama administration do.

Does the Atlantic really care who is the Anti-Christ?

While I think the Lutheran Synod of Bachmann is wrong, that is historic protestant teaching, and I’m pretty sure Martin Luther believed essentially the same.

John Wesley did, so that axes Methodists. Luther did so that axes Lutherans. Calvin did so that axes presbies, congregationalists, etc., etc.

It’s beginning to sound like a “religious test”....isn’t it? And those are forbidden by the constitution.

Oh...and should we get rid of Obama because of Jeremiah Wright?

PEOPLE LISTEN.

This is not about Bachmann vs. soetero. This is about Bachmann and her past - it SHOULD BE KNOWN prior to the primaries so WE can make an informed decision. If her church indeed stated that the Pope is the antichrist, then that would important for me to know.

If this is not an issue then why, all of a sudden, did she leave her church? She knows damn well that this is going to bite her in the arse.

I spent some time attending both Baptist and Church of Christ Churches before I went HOME to the Catholic Church. I can tell you that both the Baptist and Church of Christ churches overtly criticized the Catholic church on a recurring basis -—— so much so that it made me defensive of the Catholic church and I went back. I have NEVER heard our priest utter one negative word about protestant religions. But I heard plenty of evangelicals get their pants in a wad about the Catholics.

Interesting note is that the Catholic church is now experiencing respectable growth as many lost protestants are coming home to where they need to be.

All this crap in this thread from the evangelicals could end up pushing me to Romney if Palin won’t run. And yes, if Palin through this out there, then good for her, because we all know how the jackals in Bachmann’s campaign were criticizing Palin.

I’m a devout Catholic and will vote for Michele Bachmann with a clear conscience if she is the GOP nominee. I’ll support her in VA’s primary if she’s in and Cain is out.

This debate is striking to me. (Without having read the full thread) I’m struck by the apparent dichotomy that is proposed here:

1. Either it’s important what she believes about Catholicism or...

2. Her religious views have nothing to do with her political views.

I’m sorry, but at least as of right now, I have a problem with #2. I have actually spoken about this before, before even the 2010 elections.

Increasingly anymore, as I continue to take my faith, my humanity, more seriously, I cannot see how it is reasonable to say something to the effect, “My faith, my questions about my ultimate destiny, my humanity, are ‘important’ to me, but only as long as they don’t get in the way of my political views.”

Doesn’t anyone see a problem with that kind of statement? If one’s politics are separate from one’s faith, where do you think such political views come from? I submit they can only come from one place: The World, or, as Fr. Giussani puts it, the “powers that be”. There is no “independence” apart from God. There is no “freedom”, true “freedom”, apart from God. Either one believes that, or religion, one’s faith, is just something tacked on to make oneself feel better, but it isn’t really real. It isn’t truly something that one knows is a fact. That is, God isn’t really, truly, *real*, again, He is just a nice idea thought about on Sunday.

Sorry, I must reject #2 above for these reasons. With all this said though, this is still a moment where Rep. Bachmann can shine. It’s a fact she left that ecclesiastical group a year ago. If she simply comes out and says, “I left it because if its bigoted stance against Catholicism”, or something like that, then it is all resolved. It would be certainly more than anything Obama has said wrt his affiliations, but beyond that, it would be a reasonable statement to make.

Am I concerned about leftists trying to drive a wedge between conservatives? Yes. But quite frankly, I’m more concerned about living a lie, and indeed, that is what #2 is above, for me. I can no longer say, my faith is separate from my politics, because, to put it bluntly, then I have no reason that is reasonable, to believe my politics are correct.

Politics, as every human thought, must flow from one’s faith to be reasonable. My faith comes first, THEN my politics. My politics don’t dictate my faith. If I then say, it’s ok to vote for someone who not only disagrees with my faith, which is one thing, but is virulently opposed to it, that is an unreasonable position.

It’s basically saying my faith isn’t real,’not as real as politics’, which as I explain above is foolish. For me.

I don’t care who thinks the Pope is the anti-Christ or a potted plant. I want to know who will repeal Obamacare, repeal the 16th amendment, appoint originalist judges, shut the border, etc.

this is nonsense.

The “pope is the antichrist” meme of that branch of the Lutheran church is considered a joke in Minnesota.

And actually, at the time that Luthur said it, there had been a lot of popes who were pretty rotten...
