As to your question.
Media outrage is a manufactured commodity. The fact that it was Rupert Murdoch's empire that got busted is the source of the outrage. Had the Guardian been busted, they would be justifying the situation and making the same excuses as they are making for the Gunrunner debacle.
The media, particularly here in the States, hate Murdoch because of Fox News. And that is because, although Fox is a liberal network, it is not a radical leftist network like ABCCBSNBCABCWAPONYTLAT. And they can't stand that. Anything that they can use to knock a hole in Fox/Murdoch is fair game to these commies.

Recovering Democrat, I agree with you that our attention is being focused elsewhere by The Mouthpiece Media. It's the look-at-the-shiny-thing-over-here technique that this administration is so good at. Their dirt-digging staffmembers find an old but still open issue and throw it out like chum in an ocean of media.
Gunwalker then gets thrown off "page one" and if Fox News continues to report on it it, their credibility is now in question rather than the issue itself. Another Communisty Organizer "Mission Accomplished" flag gets planted and they move on to their next Soros-funded task.
They gotta get FOX under control.
