It would work in Heaven, but they don’t need it, or in Hell, where they already have it...

Don’t forget it is happening with the help of the socialist Mayor who wasn’t recalled when he should have been. The putzes on the city council aren’t doing the citizens any favors either! The most corrupt, taxing, city in Nebraska and the leader wants bike lanes and light rail instead of fixing the pothole ridden streets.

” Sustainability Coordinator”
That sounds like a government position straight out of Atlas Shrugged.

Everyone still works here and identifies themselves as Pittsburghers but no one wants to live in the actual city.

For that we can thank the Pennsylvania Constitution which severely limits their powers of annexation. If Pittsburgh were in Ohio the city would have gobbled-up all of Allegheny and parts of neighboring counties by now.

Fresh Grad from Carnegie-Mellon making $45K salary to ensure that everything the city does meets “green” specs. She looks a little like Roseanne Barr with glasses.

Colorado Springs is certainly not leftist. They are pretty darned conservative. I’m really rather fuzzy on how they got all messed up.

Pretty much Rat and Union playpens, all.

Yepper, let us look at the record shall we? In most cases the Mayor is the CEO but the budget has to passed by City Council or equivalent. Hard to track these city legislative bodies but for the most part they seem all solid Dem.

  1. New York City: Last GOP Mayor Bloomberg(?!) & Gulliani, but Council has been Dem for Generations.
  2. Los Angeles: Last GOP Riordan 2000.
  3. Chicago: The Daleys - need anymore be said.
  4. San Francisco: Last GOP Mayor in 1964.
  5. Pittsburgh: Last GOP Mayor in 1934.
  6. North Las Vegas: Incorporated 1946 - Council-Manager type structure Party affiliation unknown.
  7. San Jose, Calif.: Nonpartisan Mayor?, Current Mayor Chuck Reed claims Democrat
  8. Providence, R.I.: Current & past Mayors for past 10 years Dem.
  9. New Haven: No GOP Mayor since before 1972.
  10. Newark: No GOP Mayor since before 1953.
  11. Stockton, Calif.: Nonpartisan?
  12. Colorado Springs: Nonpartisan?
  13. Costa Mesa, Calif.: Nonpartisan City Council/Mayor/City Manager?
  14. Central Falls, R.I.: Mayor/Council no info about partisanship - Home of the Central Falls High School which fired all teachers and then rehired when union relented about extra work.

Whew, a lot of work here with poor results about specifics but it seems obvious that very few cities have outright GOP domination and many failed cities have generations of Democrat domination.

The GOP almost never bothers to field candidates in Pittsburgh anymore. And when they do it is generally somebody ridiculous like a 26 year-old lawyer from Philadelphia. I like to joke about becoming the first Republican Pittsburgh Mayor since Reconstruction, and about how the Pittsburgh GOP Committee will be holding their quarterly meeting in a booth at this particular tavern, etc.

And the reason is obvious. The Democrats provide lots of cushy gubbermint jobs for various naer-do-wells and members of their extended families.

Public sector workers and their unions are a cancer which will destory their hosts. Nuff said.

Nice to see San Diego leads some list. /s

Our problem is unfunded, exorbitant pensions. Some small progress has been made but the real battle will come on the ballot next year with a reform plan up for a public vote.

“As federal stimulus money runs dry, states are scaling back on municipal aid and revenue sharing”

Sarah Palin as governor warned early on what would be the result of accepting the stimulus money, and for her efforts she was called a fool.

One of the very few Democrats I have ever voted for. Reed followed decades of union-friendly 'Rats (that had built in these immovable union pension schemes) and had to beat out a union-friendly and union-funded 'Rat to win the Mayorship. Reed is very Republican-friendly and Christian-friendly, not that I've agreed with every decision of his.

Out of ten "non-partisan" city council districts, there's all of one Republican, plus a few that will cross-over on fiscal matters.

#2 - Los Angeles

And that idiot Zex Yaroslavsky was so elated at the weekend that Carmageddon did not happen with the closure of the 405.....saying that people did not have to get in their cars at weekends and go somewhere. They could enjoy staying at home.

Their tax revenue depends upon folks taking trips; buying gas etc.

Some federal workers more likely to die than lose jobs

Death — rather than poor performance, misconduct or layoffs — is the primary threat to job security at the Environmental Protection Agency, the Small Business Administration, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Office of Management and Budget and a dozen other federal operations.

http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2011-07-18-fderal-job-security_n.htm

at least DC is still “livin large”.
