Speaking this morning to the Texas Municipal Police Association in Austin, Gov. Rick Perry returned to one of his favorite subjects over the last few years, saying the Obama administration has inappropriately handled security issues on the Texas-Mexico border.
Perry, who told the Des Moines Register in recent days that God may be calling him to run for president, has long said Washington has not deployed enough manpower to the Texas-Mexico border. He repeated that criticism this morning, saying he wants 3,000 Border Patrol agents along the border in Texas and 1,000 troops from the National Guard. He said the administrations decision to send 286 troops last year was grossly inadequate.
The federal government continues to turn a blind eye to this problem, Perry said.
Last August, when President Barack Obama came to Austin for a fundraiser, Perry met him at the airport and tried to hand him a letter asking for National Guard troops. (He gave the letter to an Obama aide.) Perry later bragged in a re-election commercial that he had confronted Obama, showing footage of their brief encounter.
Last year, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano sent Perry a letter saying the Border Patrol was better staffed than at any time in its history, having increased from about 10,000 agents in 2004 to more than 20,000 in 2010.

So, you’re an Independent too.
How many are in your party?
47,694 turned out to vote for Keyes in the 08 general. That would be 8th place in total popular vote.
you again. same tired lines. again.
If you know the entire GOP field that we will get to vote on in the primaries, then feel free to share it with the rest of us.
Thank you.
And EV was trying to pull the wool over my eyes.
It’s becoming clear now why their pattern of posting is all so familiar.
The American Independent Party is our California affiliate. Nationally, our party is called America’s Independent Party. A good number of our affiliated parties are known as America’s Party. Other smaller Reagan conservative parties are beginning to coalesce as well. So, we’ll see what happens.
If the formerly grand old party continues to go the way of the Whigs, the sky is the limit. Conservatives are still potentially the most potent force in American politics. That is, if they aren’t being represented by a false flag party like the Republican Party has become.
It's just that, to any reasonable person, for someone to hold such strong feelings, and who isn't shy about expressing them, but then demures on tossing out a candidate they'd support, well.....it's just fishy.
you are right.
It is time to be ENERGETIC against RINOs.
All of THEM.
Pull the wool over your eyes? How?
This is pretty funny coming from the most prolific poster for a Giuliani RINO who masquerades as a conservative at election time.
Naturally, and you were going to give me all information that on your own.
You flatter me.
Those were nothing more than grassroots folks who used their own resources to put somebody on the ballot that they could vote for. In other words, somebody who is conservative, unlike John Judas McCain.
The number doesn’t mean much. It was not an organized effort.
We wasted most of the election cycle giving the GOP one last chance. Stupid, I know, but there you go.
My information is right on my home page. What are you talking about?
Ross Perot ring a bell?
TWICE ring a bell?
Is there a link to that information at your site?
Ross Perot was a pro-abort liberal, spouting a little populist rhetoric at election time. Kinda like Rudy Giuliani, your candidate’s guy.
No, why would there be?
And he split the vote and he gave us Clinton, twice.
Now think of something real clever so you can include Giuliani in your answer to me.
So you’re denying it?
I wouldn’t want to misunderstand.
You don’t (didn’t) support Ambassador Alan Keyes.
