Staying up late to watch. I never got to see (in person) a shuttle launch. Darn.

However, if it’s still there, I can definitely recommend the “Shuttle Launch Experience” ride at Cape Canaveral / Kennedy Space Center. It’ll flap your cheeks; those high and low. :-) :-)

Couple of minutes to de-orbit burn.

I hope there is some form of DVD set available about the history of the space shuttle, especially the launches, and of course about the two that we lost, God Rest their brave souls.

De-orbit burn commenced. No stopping now...Atlantis is coming home.

Here’s hoping we’ll return one day to The Black.

"Here’s hoping we’ll return one day to The Black."

Another reason to get rid of Obama in 2012. The symbolism of the US retreat from space cannot be overestimated. This is a great day for Obama who believes the world will be a better place with the US brought down to the level of the rest of the world. The Russians won the space race, after all. The private sector may get a limited LEO program up, but Obama will probably cripple that as well. The Won's deep space program to visit an asteroid is just vaporware that means nothing and is cover for the diversion of what's left of NASA to more important things like weather/global climate change scam, Muslim outreach, and programs to send $$ to favored sources.

I am under the beliefs that Obama canned NASA because Moslems don’t want unbelievers traipsing on the lunar landscape, its the holy celestial object of Allahs love or something.

There is an actual launch center in Alaska believe it or not.

Privately owned I believe.

When Sarah Palin becomes POTUS I wonder if she will revive the American space dream?

God only knows a Moslem POTUS won’t, they get all ticked off about orbits and orientation towards Mecca and stuff like that.

I’m up and watching. I remember back in the early 60s, Mom and Dad would have us go to school late in order to watch the take-offs and splash downs of the early flights. They said that history was being made and it was just as important as school.

May God have mercy on our country.

3200 people will lose their job when Atlantis touches down.
As historic as this morning may be, there is a certain sadness that will accompany the events.

I remember vividly watching most of if not every launch, the failures, the landings and the end of the space race.

And when I went to the Cape and walked under a Saturn 5 and then saw all the equipment they had mostly built by slide rulers its just totally and almost unbelievable.

Entering the atmosphere!

I remember the tense minutes after splashdowns and before the capsules were spotted bobbing in the ocean. There was a good idea where the astronauts were but even so, it is hard to spot things floating in the water.

Atlantis now at ‘atmosphere interface’, where they are just starting to enter Earth’s atmosphere again.

There are more than one, which can be found on Amazon, eBay, etc. Just do a Google (etc.) search for “history of space shuttle DVD”. Though I don’t own any of them, I probably should! Unfortunately, that means I can’t give a recommendation - some web research is probably in order. Or maybe someone here has a recommendation or two.

NASA-TV showing crowds of people outside the admin building at Johnson Space Center in Houston, watching the landing on a Jumbotron screen.

I am crying. Fox just showed the signs the NASA workers had made.

God bless America.

One last time, I’m going to time the Mannheim Steamroller song “Earthrise/Return” off of “Fresh Aire V” to the last 8:30 of the Shuttle flight. I’ve done it before, and it’s a spectacular sensation. The last part of the song is triumphant as the Shuttle lands.
