... However, the next phase is robots.

`The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we’ll continue to follow them.`

“And now, tomorrow, 5,000 NASA employees will be no more. Thank you DEAR LEADER for killing yet another part of America.”

Yup. We had the team assembled. (scientists, engineers, employees)They will scatter to the four winds and Cape Canaveral will become a weed garden. Imagine the cost of jump starting a program like that from scratch all over again. It will never happen. The US will never again have a manned space program.

`We HAVE “October Sky”. They’ve seen it.`

“The difference is: the main character lived in the Age of Von Braun, when America wanted to do things in space.

We live in the Age of Obama...where most of America wants to do nothing.”

Yup. Navel gazers.

“Never again will I see the shuttle docked to ISS. ISS itself serves as a reminder of how far we came. The greatest accomplishment of the shuttle for manned spaceflight was allowing us to learn how to build and maintain an immense structure in orbit.”

EXCELLENT points! The ISS would not have been possible without the shuttle. The Hubble telescope (and repairs to it) would not have been possible without the shuttle. Lots of people considered what the shuttle did as boring and mundane compared to the Apollo program or sending people to Mars. But something like that is necessary if we want to construct things in space. I think of the gargantuan “space docks” the Enterprise pulled into for repairs/refits in the Star Trek movies. I imagine it took something like our space shuttles to build them. Heck, I imagine it took space shuttles to build the Enterprise starship itself.

“My sense of loss today is something I was not expecting.
I too feel ‘old’ today.”

Today makes the country itself `old.`

I guess NASA will roll up its sleeves and get started on that Muslim outreach program that our feckless leader demands. I'm feeling really proud. Not.

Looks like Russia's taking the lead in space now, as reported in most news agencies. Putin's wasted no time in delivering they will now take the mantel for space exploration...a vacum quickly filled. As for NASA's outreach programs...they are already in play...you can bank on our technology being handed over. It's a part of Obama's spread the wealth around so all can benefit....He's so stupid...they will use any technology against us...but what does he care...the sooner this nation falls the happier he will be. He'll be off living in luxury when he's done...so no skin off his nose whatsoever. Besides..he'll blame Bush.

...not to forget scattered all over the Middle East to spread our knowledge around over there...the Muslim outreach program ya know.

If I worked at Nasa and Obama told me I'd be working to improve the ME. countries...I'd tell him where to shove it...and leave Nasa.
