Gov. Deval Patrick showed up unexpectedly at a hearing today to urge lawmakers to pass legislation that would make certain undocumented immigrants eligible to pay in-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities, cautioning legislators against be caught up in the “hyperbole of immigration.”
“It’s time for us to fix the law. This really is a matter of fairness,” Patrick told the Committee on Higher Education, after apologizing for showing up unannounced.
“I just ask you to keep in mind the faces, the lives, and real experiences of the young people whose future is at stake,” Patrick said.
The bills, sponsored by Sen. Sonia Chang-Diaz (D-Jamaica Plain) and Reps. Alice Wolf (D-Cambridge) and Denise Provost (D-Somerville), would extend in-state tuition rates to anyone who has attended high school in Massachusetts for at least three years and has earned a diploma or equivalent in the Commonwealth.

Give them taxpayer subsidized in-state tuition rates, but God forbid if you ask for ID at the polling booth.
Every time you give a sweet deal to an illegal immigrant, you are withholding such a sweet deal from a US citizen.
Deval, I'd ask you to "keep in mind the faces, the lives, and real experiences of the young people whose future is at stake" but I know you don't care about "us" -- you only care abour those who are "not us".

Immigrant tuition bill? Legal residents would have no issue with in state tuition. Oh your talking about illegal immigrants. The editor must have inadvertently left that out of the headline.
..And Jennifer Nassour and the Ma GOP actually found a way to lose to Obama’s Minnie-Me.....
They’ll have to show ID to register and enroll in the college. At least we’ll have ID proof of the illegals. Look on the bright side.

This type of story should inform everyone that amnesty will happen. Politicians throughout the country are bending over backwards to appeal to the mexican base. Some think it will be done by zero fiat, but I don’t think it will happen that way. Whites are being subsumed throughout the western world.

Why not just charge In-State tuition to everyone?
It is discriminating to out of State students to have to pay more when out of country students get to pay less.
The MD state legislature just passed their version of this “DREAM Act” and good ole’ GUV O’Malley signed it despite MASSIVE opposition by the MD public ...
We have referendum in MD and it took all of 6 weeks to gather enuf signatures to send this to referendum in the next election. In the interim, the law will be put on hold. It is certain to be defeated in 2012 ...
WHY in HELL they ever passed this law against so much opposition - I’ll never know. BUT, once it goes down to defeat, ALL of the libs in the legislature AND O’Malley are gonna look like BAFFOONS !!!
If Maryland is anything like Massachusetts,(and I really hope it isn't...ONE Massachusetts is already too many...),they'll all be re-elected as long as they have a "D" by their name.

At one time the people of Connecticut made fun of Massachsettes by calling them Taxichusettes but things here are much worse.The people of Connecticut are such suckers.
As a Texas I am ashamed to say that Texas provides in-state tuition for ILLEGALS.... Gov. Perry continues to support this while he pays lip service to stopping illegal immigration! He is going to have to answer this dilema if he runs for President as it will definately be brought up by one of the others at a debate...I’m betting only Herman Cain would have the gonads to call him on it!!

It’s a total rat state. What do those scumbags in the legislature care about taxpayer money? Just pass the stinking bill already and move on to banning plastic bags and circumcision and fast food and whatever else the fascist rat scumbags like to tell people they can’t have. Then raise taxes again. (yawn)

Hopefully, this will jettison Perry's chances. It certainly should.
