Hyatt apologized Friday morning for an incident in which heat lamps were turned on above workers on strike at the Park Hyatt Chicago hotel Thursday, saying a manager is responsible for the controversial move.

Hotel workers on strike were taken by surprise Thursday morning when 10 heat lamps hanging above their picket line flipped on and stayed on for what they claim was nearly an hour.

I’d go even further, and suggest Hyatt should turn their hotels into Section 8 apartments.

I remember working on a loading dock years ago in the unbelievably humid and hot New Jersey summer right near Newark. No breeze, no nuthin. Loading and unloading trucks. It was miserable but we all suffered thru it.

What, just how was this asshalt and battry? The heat lamps couldn’t have been THAT hot and no worse than slacker union slugs breaking a sweat sleeping on the job.

I put a sign over the main entrance to my paint department that said “Welcome to Hell. Abandon all hope” with a smiley face skull and crossbones.

When the foreman in the assembly area had an extra whiny line worker complaining about heat, he would send them on a walk through of the paint department. When they came out the other side he’d say “Nice out here isn’t it?”.

Probably the first time the “workers” ever broke a sweat.

Hyatt should buy them cases of cases of cold beer, coolers to sit on, patio umbrellas. Portable AC units should be mandatory for strikers, paid for by Hyatt of course. Massage therapists, psychological counseling...

And as a way of further reparations, Hyatt should also hire the Zac Brown Band to play a private concert for them while they are on strike, as a way of saying sorry for assaulting you while you picketed our business.

“Man, we disagree over this kind of thing, and suddenly some people think it’s ok to behave like animals.”

Please clarify: I know of no documented cases of animals using heat lamps.

“but I don’t think strikers should be sprayed from hoses.”

Are they tiny strikers? munchkins? How do they get them in the hose?

LOL!!!

If the area illuminated by the heat lamps was Hyatt property, the owner had every right to illuminate the property any way it saw fit -- and the picketers were trespassing.

The same goes for turning on sprinklers when trespassers are trampling your lawn (which has been demonstrated to be an effective and legal protest deterrent).
