The President Is Actually Trying to Talk the Markets Into a Panic.
Commentary Magazine ^ | July 22, 2011 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 07/23/2011 3:45:55 PM PDT by Beaten Valve

An enraged Barack Obama just took to the nation’s airwaves to announce his effort to strike a deal with Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner has fallen apart. Perhaps for the first time in American history, this president is literally using this press conference to create a financial panic over the weekend about the opening of the markets on Monday. He is warning of disaster on Monday. Clearly, he wants to use this as leverage to frighten the GOP into passing the plan proposed by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, which will push the debt ceiling problem into 2013, but it’s still an entirely new and astonishingly reckless gambit.

Watching the insta-reaction on Twitter is very instructive. Liberals say this is good for Obama because it shows GOP recalcitrance. Conservatives say that he has remained so committed to enormous tax increases that he tanked the very possibility of a deal. Time will tell, but it strikes me that the heated rhetoric he is using—”I didn’t get my phone call returned,” “I’ve been left at the altar,” “there’s nothing Republicans will say yes to”—does not suggest he, Obama, feels he has been handed a gift by Boehner and the GOP. He claims to have put $1.5 trillion in cuts on the table, plus $600 billion in entitlement reductions, in exchange for tax increases of the same size. He says Republicans said they would accept a dollar in higher taxes (or “revenue”) for every four dollars in cuts, which isn’t exactly saying “no’” to everything. For their part, Republicans in the House passed their cut, cap and balance bill on Wednesday, and it included an increase in the debt ceiling, so even by his own account his criticisms of the GOP are not accurate.

Obama could do something that no one expects:

A) Totally cave and allow cuts which would be bullish.

B) Intentionally default and cause a market crash.

Just think how much this info would be worth to major financial players, e.g., Soros. Obama could tip them off at the last minute and they could make many billions. Or he could intentionally whipsaw the markets by changing his mind and Soros, et al, could make even more.

With a payoff this big he could collect the bribes later and live like the Sultan of Brunei.

Skeeter, your question “how did we end up with a man of such low moral character as our leader?”.......deserves more talk on FR and Fox News and other reasonably sane forums.

The answer to your question lies in the fabric of the American Electorate. First, if you will note, whenever there is a poll on anything from child molesting to wars there is ALWAYS around 22% to 25% in support of whatever the opposite position of the right and general sanity is. So, kiss off 22% of the american electorate as being HARD, HARD LEFTIST supporters of Obama and they will vote for him again! So, the man is halfway re-elected already! Then, you have the “middle left” or what I call the “squishy left”, a little to the right of the HARD LEFT Whacko’s but still left and that % is always about 15%. 90% of them (the not so hard left) will vote for the sob in 2012 and you can take that to the bank even if we are in a declared depression.

Then, he will even pick up a few independents. They are the worst of the worst since one desperately wants to theorize and trust that there would be “some” brain matter in their heads! To be sure, in their mushy heads is where the Nov 2012 election resides. Tragically, a lot of those folks are here illegally, on the government teat, unemployed, uninformed, un-educated, in prioson, convicts or worse, educated in government schools controlled by the NEA and the list of electoral issues could go on and on endlessly. SO THERE IS THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION OF “WHY????”.................do we have this low charactered sob in the oval office...............duuuh................about 40 million low charactered americans put the sob there!!!!.........and will do it again absent an all out effort from the right and brain carrying, hard working, tax paying Americans!

The last time this country was this evenly divided on a basic, basic issue was circa 1861. Irony of all ironies, the political divide in 2011 is over the same issue as it was in 1861........... states rights!!! How many governors have mentioned the word “secede” in recent years?

So, stock up!! And, Obama would just love martial law!

Why do I have this feeling that even Soros is tiring of Obama’s antics and Soros may be engineering Obama’s downfall? Soros could lose his shirt over this crisis (Soros Fund Management runs one of the oldest and most powerful hedge funds in the USA) and given Soros’ ruthlessness, Obama could be asking for trouble in no time flat.

“Aren’t you sweet making deals with my money. Screw you guys.”

Actually, this isn’t as bad a deal as you think. Consider that the feds spent $3.5 trillion in 2010. The government took in $2.2. trillion. If Obama agreed to accept a four-to-one tradeoff, we could be out of the hole next year, if the Republican House passed a bill raising taxes $875 billion in 2011—since there would then no longer be any federal government expenditures, the President having agreed to cut them all. 8^)

Are we to assume he is playing the TV or TS role here???

If so bend over and get ready for the big fella

Got this in the mail earlier today. Not sure if it has already been posted.

Bull$hit Bingo

This sounds like fun

Rules for Bulls$hit Bingo

1. Before Barrack Obama’s next televised speech, prepare your “Bull$hit Bingo” card by drawing a square.

I find that 5” x 5” is a good size — and dividing it into columns —five across and five down. That will give you 25 1-inch blocks.

2. Write one of the following words/phrases in each block:

Restored our reputation
Strategic fit
Let me be clear
Make no mistake
Back from the brink
Signs of recovery
Out of the loop
Benchmark
Job creation
Fiscal restraint
Win-win
Affordable health care
Previous Administration
Greed on Wall Street
At the end of the day
Empower (or empowerment)
Touch base
Mindset
Corporate greed
Ballpark
Game plan
Leverage
Inherited as in “I inherited this mess”
Relief for working families (alternate - “unprecedented”)

3. Check off the appropriate block when you hear one of those words/phrases.

4. When you get five blocks horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, standup and shout

“BULL$HIT!”

Testimonials from past satisfied “Bull$hit Bingo” players:

“I had been listening to the speech for only five minutes when I won.” -
Jack W., Boston

“My attention span during speeches has improved dramatically.”
David D., Florida

“What a gas! Speeches will never be the same for me after my first win.” -
Bill R., New York City

“The atmosphere was tense in the last speech as 14 of us waited for the fifth box.”
Ben G., Denver

“The speaker was stunned as eight of us screamed “BULL$HIT!” for the third time in two hours.” - Harry A, Chantilly

“This is the most fun I have ever had with my pants up!”
Robert H. Portland

Bring it Obama! Just bring it! Loser. The markets will skyrocket Monday from the very effort to cause them to drop. Wall Street always goes the opposite way.

Republicans...make history and stand your ground!

“He lost the election in that press conference. He may not even serve out his term.”

I love your optimism but I couldn’t disagree with you more.

I think the American people are buying his lies. Fox News poll yesterday said that more people were blaming the GOP for this crisis than the President.

I think the real reason Zero is so concerned about the revenue portion (increasing taxes) is to ensure that he has money available to buy votes. He will ignore the spending cuts or bypass them but he absolutely needs the new cash to buy votes just like FDR did with Federal largesse before elections.

If I controlled the Republican leadership I would have them all declare—

“We aren’t going to be summoned the White House for useless meetings until you have a plan for us to see”

“So where is your plan, maggot? We have been presenting our plans for weeks. So where is yours?
