I read parts of the killer’s “manifesto,” which revealed him to be a Ted Kazcynski/Charles Manson type: crazy as a loon. Like them, he thought he was going to strike fear into the hearts of people who just didn’t realize the problem that he alone had been smart enough to identify and which he alone could solve, mostly by unleashing huge amounts of bloodshed. He thought he was a special person and that some people, but not everybody, recognized this and they would eventually all recognize it. Like Kazcynski, he was hyper-intelligent (I guess Manson was also pretty smart) but was completely living in his own head in this delirious fantasy involving Freemasons and Templars and the army he was going to lead.

Apparently, women didn’t seem to recognize his genius or charm, because he set aside 2000 euros to pay for a really high-class hooker the night before the day he picked to commit his attacks.

It’s not surprising it reads like Ted Kazcynski: besides being a murderer, it seems Breivik is a plagiarist. Someone has matched swaths of his manifest with the Unabomber’s manifesto word for word, but with the global substitution of “cultural Marxist” for “leftist”.
