CHARGE: Impeachment if he allows default...

Steve King on default: Obama could be impeached

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) said Monday that President Barack Obama “would be impeached” if the nation falls into default.

“STOP talking about default,” he wrote on Twitter. “The 1st dime of each $1 of revenue services debt. Obama would be impeached if he blocked debt payments. C C & B!”

King is among the House Republicans who voted for the so-called “Cut, Cap and Balance” plan that would introduce a constitutional amendment to require a balanced budget. The Senate last week dismissed the House bill.

King isn’t the first Republican to suggest that Obama should be impeached over the debt crisis.

Rep. Tim Scott (R-S.C.) said earlier this month it would be “an impeachable offense” for Obama to raise the debt ceiling without congressional approval. In April, former Reagan administration official Bruce Fein drafted articles of impeachment in hopes that House Republicans would introduce them. And Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) in March said the air attacks on Libya are impeachable acts.

I'm not sure what "the hammer" is when they control 2/3 of Govt.

You want to send Boehner's goons in some midnight to threaten to break Reid's legs or something?

“The $1.1 trillion in “cuts” (actually reduced increases in spending, given DC-speak) will be over the next 5-10 years. The Debt Increase would be for RIGHT NOW.”

Debt increase is only for 5 months, then we do another round.

Think, we do this 6 months at a time, then every six months another “what to cut” oppty.

I didn’t think they could rewrite the entire Constitution, only amend it:

“”The second method prescribed is for a Constitutional Convention to be called by two-thirds of the legislatures of the States, and for that Convention to propose one or more amendments. These amendments are then sent to the states to be approved by three-fourths of the legislatures or conventions. This route has never been taken, and there is discussion in political science circles about just how such a convention would be convened, and what kind of changes it would bring about.

Regardless of which of the two proposal routes is taken, the amendment must be ratified, or approved, by three-fourths of states. There are two ways to do this, too. The text of the amendment may specify whether the bill must be passed by the state legislatures or by a state convention. See the Ratification Convention Page for a discussion of the make up of a convention. Amendments are sent to the legislatures of the states by default. Only one amendment, the 21st, specified a convention. In any case, passage by the legislature or convention is by simple majority.””

He is the one driving the agenda and going with the short term fix adds to that control.

This appears to be true at least for the time being and maybe from here on out.

I think Boehner's winning strategy is coming up with multiple plans while the Dems sit back and wait to attack (to employ Alinsky strategy). Problem is, they never get to attack because there are too many plans coming at them at one time.

"The debt ceiling will be raised immediately.

The spending will be cut . . . NEVER."

Yeah . . . I think you've caught my drift.

Boehner, Lead! damn you.

Or in the alternative, the Republican reps should just disregard and replace this emptiest of empty suits, and do what the Constitution requires.

Congress can ONLY force something to be spent if they can muster enough votes to override a veto

Don't think that's they way it would work. This is true of the debt limit hike so Obama would own it but as far as cuts go, Obama would only be able to recommend them...they would have to still have to be voted on the regular way by Congress.

No way is McConnell suggesting that Congress give up its appropriations power.

They’re not cuts. They’re “reductions in increases.” The Democrats will game the system to get as much as much loot as they want, while the RINOs will game it to claim there were “cuts.”

Is that $1 trillion in cuts for the current fiscal year?

No. Absolutely NO plan put forward, by anybody, including the avid Tea Party representatives, have included a trillion in cuts for the first year.

It makes no sense to be upset about not getting cuts that nobody has proposed or thinks would be a good thing.

The economy is still too shaky to cut one forth of next year's budget, without cutting defense.

There better be real cuts, but nobody is asking for it all to happen next year.

Of course, if you just leave the debt limit in place, we'll end up with more cuts quicker, but again only a few tea party folks are advocating leaving the debt limit in place, and none of them have provided their vision for government expenses under a no-new-borrowing proposal.

In fact, of the tea party folks who oppose raising the debt limit, they seem to do so for political reasons -- Bachmann for example will vote to raise the limit in exchange for repeal of Obamacare, not because she wants to cut spending by 40% this year.

This is how they are going to marginalize the tea party.

***************************

They already marginalized the Tea Party. This just pours the concrete around their feet.

We do not need a third party, but a second party would be nice.

For those of you who think the GOP can be reformed, do you have a target date to accomplish this miracle, or is your patience infinite? Serious question. Of course this cycle is too close, but the question remains.

What power does this “committee of 12” have over our elected leaders?

It’s just more bs. Six will fight for deeper unconstitutional socialism and six will fight for slower unconstitutional socialism. And they hope to impose the decisions made by this “bi-partisan” socialist committee on the Tea Party representatives.

********************************

You are 100% on target.

I'm not sure what "the hammer" is when they control 2/3 of Govt.

What I meant is that the house controls the purse strings of the country per the constitution.

By the way "they do not control 2/3 of the government. The government is comprised of three Equal branches which are the legislative (house & senate), the administrative (president), and the judicial (courts including the supreme court).

The Dems are trying desperately to have their way on this issue by bypassing the the houses control of the purse strings. Why help them to score political points? The truth of the matter is that we have spent ourselves into an unsustainable path and we have to stop before our creditors humiliate us by shutting us off.

What I meant is marginalize the Tea Party on the issue of the debt limit. The house is the Lynch pin in these negotiations. By allowing the house democrats an equal number of votes with the house republicans you take away the one impediment to the democrats having their way on this issue.

Absolutely worthless. Just kicks the problem down the road.

You are right. However, it just goes to prove the fact that I’ve been harping and preaching about for years...that the Republicans always COMPROMISE away any chance of showing leadership in the culture of “whipped dogs” whenever things become “unpleasant.”

They NEVER FAIL to go along to get along.

Time for a new Third party to rise....namely the Tea Party.
