Boehner Calls Rush Limbaugh, Gives Details of Negotiations With Reid, McConnell
Monday, July 25, 2011 | Kristinn

Posted on 07/25/2011 10:11:01 AM PDT by kristinn

Rush Limbaugh said Speaker of the House John Boehner phoned him this morning around 10:30 to brief him on the latest news about his negotiations with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to raise the nation's debt ceiling.

Limbaugh told about the conversation on his nationally syndicated radio program. Boehner said there is a two-tier plan in the works. Step one would cut $1.1 trillion in spending with a $1 trillion increase in the debt that would get the government to April 2012 with no tax increases.

The next tier would be recommended cuts by a joint House-Senate committee made by twelve members, six from each chamber with three each appointed by each leader, Boehner, Reid, McConnell and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

Limbaugh said that McConnell is now on the same page as Boehner.

If the debt ceiling is not raised, OBAMA is the one who decides what spending gets cut

Don't know why you say this. I haven't seen any scenario in which Obama is the sole decider of what gets cut. Far from it.

Which poll is that?

It's 0s Rasmussen # from today.

Even more important is this (from the same poll):

Among those not affiliated with either major party, 18% Strongly Approve (of 0BAMA) and 42% Strongly Disapprove.

How can 0 win re-election when less than 20% of independents approve of him? In 2008, 0 won 52% of independents.

This is a 30%+ nosedive from 33 months ago.

And that figure doesn't factor in disapproval from Conservatives and RINOs.

Agree in principle.

Realistically speaking, however, the political class attracts people of weak moral fiber - people who don’t have any sleepless nights over lyng to the public, spending our hard earned money, engaging in scandal, and becoming chimeric spawns of the media. The “Warrior” you long for has already prudently assessed the situation and determined that the return on investment for sticking to moral principals in this environment is a net loss to them, their loved ones, and anyone they would try to help while in office.

“They all need to go” is a broken record, I’m afraid to say. We’ve have tremendous turnover of encumbents in elections past, and the trajectory of our political system continues to be a flatspin heading straight for terra firma.

I think a good example of a “cookbook” comparison would be when Pelosi said we have to pass the bill before we know what’s in it. Well, now we know. And we’re cooked.

Maybe his Friday tantrum didn’t help his image.

Most analysts and editorial writers say his performance last Friday was the final nail in his re-election coffin. It certainly didn't win him back any independents ... that's for sure.

Actually, I believe the terms of debate have been changing all year.

I agree.

The problem is that if Boehner doesn't get 100% of what he wants, many Tea Partiers yell "cave" but I'll take 90% any day.

Again, I agree.

I am encouraged to see how much we are getting. Obama is much weaker than he appears.

When Speaker Boehner said in effect it's a waste of time to negotiate with jello a tsunami hit DC. I think Speaker Boehner just gets stronger and more confident. He is the one driving the agenda and going with the short term fix adds to that control.

obama was playing his game of trying to step in at the last second and act like the only "adult" in the room. He was just "knee capped" and I don't see him recovering. Here on out I expect Congress to just send him the papers to sign there is no need for the spoiled brat to be in the room.

Don't know why you say this. I haven't seen any scenario in which Obama is the sole decider of what gets cut. Far from it.

The ONLY alternative way to prioritize is Congress. Congress can ONLY force something to be spent if they can muster enough votes to override a veto.

If money is not available, the Executive Branch is tasked with prioritizing how all money is spent. The assumption is that Obama would do his best to prioritize wisely.

Absent a raise in the debt ceiling, we are looking at immediate spending cuts of 41% or more.

Do YOU want to give Obama the power to decide how to make those cuts? Do YOU want to give him that much power?

(Yes, I know. We CAN'T go on the way we are either. Houston, we have a problem.)

If it had been phrased “Boner is on same page as McConnell” I could believe THAT! But vice-versa? My gullibility won’t stretch that far.....thank God. It USED TO. But in my old age it isn’t that pliable anymore. Thank God for THAT, too!

So we have a conservative-dominated House and a Senate with 15 Red-State Dems up for election whom they have to please. I don't really see that as a negative.

My point is, we have the hammer already and they are looking for a way around it. Why humor them?

‘DOING THINGS ON MY OWN IS VERY TEMPTING’

Obama: ‘I need a dance partner’ on immigration reform

By the CNN Wire Staff
July 25, 2011

Washington (CNN) — America’s immigration system is broken, but pressure from a larger political movement is needed to fix it, President Barack Obama said Monday.

“The idea of doing things on my own is very tempting. I promise you, not just on immigration reform. But that’s not how our system works. That’s not how our democracy functions. That’s not how our Constitution is written,” Obama said at the National Council of La Raza’s annual conference.

“Let’s be honest, I need a dance partner here, and the floor is empty,” he added, referring to the need for bipartisan congressional support to pass an immigration reform measure.

Members of the audience responded by chanting, “Yes you can, yes you can.”

“I need you to keep building a movement for change outside of Washington, one they can’t stop, one that’s greater than this community,” Obama told them.

The speech comes at a critical time for Obama, who is trying to drum up support among Latino voters in the run-up to the 2012 election.

“Feel free to keep the heat on me and the heat on Democrats. But here’s the thing you should know, the Democrats and your president are with you, don’t get confused about that,” he said Monday.

I beg permission to tweak your reply if I may be so brash.

The debt ceiling will be raised immediately.

The spending will be cut . . . NEVER.
