The only quote I’ve heard from Perry on that subject was made more as on off-hand remark than anything.

The fact remains, however, that Texas joined the union as an independent republic-—a status which it held for 10 years-—and, if Washington becomes too oppressive, would exercise the right to leave the union the same way it came in.

Here’s proof that Perry advocated Texas seceding from America.

"advocate? Perry advocated?"

"Texas Gov. Rick Perry fired up an anti-tax "tea party" Wednesday with his stance against the federal government and for states' rights as some in his U.S. flag-waving audience shouted, "Secede!"

When asked about it he stated: "We've got a great union and there is no reason to dissolve it".

Some of you Perry haters are as bad as the MSM.

A lot of people would like to split from the current fed gov’t. So they can get their rights back.

If the Texans who advocate for secession don’t have any shame for advancing this unpatriotic madness, then I guess Texas is really lost to America!

If Obama is re-elected, here's one Texan who will be looking for sanctuary country!

They didn’t die for America. They died for freedom. A big difference

If you must use a pretentious word like, “bruiting,” you should use it only once.

You lie. Nowhere in that Article you linked is there any “proof that Perry advocated Texas seceding from America.”

Here’s Perry making his statement about secession.

It is plainly obvious that he is insinuating that Texas could secede from America if Washington doesn’t pay attention.

Why bring up the Texas historical reference to secession if he didn’t believe it a viable alternative?

I don’t like the fact that he said this. It’s a problem for me, especially since the Perry supporters seem to think they are somehow entitled to the votes of Sarah supporters if she doesn’t run.

Even if Sarah doesn’t run, and she gives Perry two thumbs up, I’m still going to vet him. This is a Tea Party trait.

A responsible informed decision requires all relevant facts before voting, don’t you think?

You Betcha!

You don’t understand wry Texas talk. Texas IS the only state that has the right to secede.

Native generational Texans have a style of expressing themselves that is creative and unique. There was a fellow (Preston Jones) who wrote 3 plays in the 70’s. They were called ‘A Texas Trilogy’. They were magnificent as a demonstration/record of the manner of speech possessed by Texans.

I loved these plays in that I felt they would be a written record of a manner of expression which was slowly dying out. Rick Perry has some of this.

“...has muted his anti-Constitutional proclamations”

While the wisdom of secession can be debated, it's certainly NOT “anti-constitutional”!! The compact of union is freely entered into by the various states and their sovereign right to leave that union remains.

Just because the federal armies violently defeated the last attempt to leave the union, doesn't make that action (forced union) constitutional.

Would you like to recend your earlier statement that Perry "advocated" Texas secede from the Union?

Both your article and now this video prove he did neither.

Or are you just going to be stubborn (and dishonest) and not admit you misspoke.

This Texan, and Vet, would gladly vote to leave the Union. If our govt. will no longer allow us to be free, there are alternatives. :)
