My 7th grade Texas history class was a long time ago but I seem to remember that when Texas joined the union it retained the right to leave. We were an independent nation at the time. My ancestors were here then and I enjoyed hearing Perry make his comment. It made me smile.
I am not from Texas, but that is what I was taught in my history class as well. Texas alone specifically retained that right as a condition of statehood.
However, there is no statement in the Constitution prohibiting secession so theoretically any of those states could leave that want to.
I do not advocate that the USA split up, but Washington DC backed by lefties in the blue states seem hell bent on forcing the majority of Americans to live according to their elitist ideas of utopia, and they are severely infringing on personal freedom.
Well, Americans in general, and Texans in particular just aren't going to take that crap! Way I see it, either the states stand-up for the 10th amendment so people can live in a state that fits their ideals, or we are on our way to disintegration, totalitarianism, or civil war.
