Gingrich regrets 2008 climate ad with Pelosi (I bet he does)
The Hill ^ | 7/26/11 | Michael O'Brien

Posted on 07/26/2011 7:20:00 AM PDT by markomalley

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) said Tuesday that he regrets making a commercial with then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on the need to address climate change.

Gingrich, who partnered with Pelosi while she was Speaker for the 2008 ad, said the spot was "misconstrued," and for that reason, he wouldn't do it again.

"I was trying to make a point that we shouldn't be afraid to debate the left, even on the environment," Gingrich said on WGIR radio of the 30-second television commercial. "Obviously it was misconstrued, and it's probably one of those things I wouldn't do again."

That commercial has caused some difficulties for Gingrich in the Republican presidential primary. Pelosi is one of the most polarizing figures for primary voters, and the appearance of wanting to partner with such a political bogeyman has arguably hurt Gingrich with GOP voters.

Gingrich said in January that he "meant exactly what [he] said in that commercial," which was produced by the Alliance for Climate Protection, a nonprofit organization founded by former Vice President Al Gore (D). In the ad, Gingrich makes no endorsement of any policy solution, but says the "country must take action to address climate change."

But Gingrich has also made some environmental issues a part of his presidential campaign, calling for the elimination of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its replacement with an agency dedicated to energy creation.

He forever lost me and my families vote when he pulled that “Go Green” with the DemocRATS stunt. Wouldn’t vote for Newt for Dog Catcher!

re: I used to think he was intelligent

I used to think that too. But in recent years being liked by the Left has become more important to him than doing what is intelligent and right. He used to boldly stand up to the Left. They attacked him like he was the number one enemy on the planet, inflicting a near mortal wound. Now he is wishy washy on way too many issues. Sadly, his ego has continued to grow in the meanwhile.

What sealed it for me was his debate with JFnKerry. He agreed about Global warming long before Pelosi.

Gin-grinch always uses little buzz words to excuse himself when he steps in a puddle of excrement. Words like “Took me out of context.”, or, “That's what I said, but not what I meant.”, or, “Yes, I did take part in a propaganda stunt and betrayed all that is Conservative to score points with the Left, but that was misconstrued.”

It's way past time to disappear Newt! Now, go DO IT!

That was the “exact” moment I turned on Newt!

Anyone who falls for the global warming hype/fraud isn’t qualified to lead kindergartners in a line much less the nation.

I have always wanted to ask some lefty global warming believer ... um... would you trust any temperature data and or analysis collected by “scientists” hired by the oil companies? Then what makes you think I would trust the data and or analysis of some environmental nut that chained himself to a tree last week?

“No but we both agree our country needs to take action on climate change” Newt Gingrich

“I was trying to make a point that we shouldn’t be afraid to debate the left, even on the environment,”

There’s no debate there. Newt SAYS he agrees with Nancy. Doesn’t he know we can see what he actually said in 2 minutes?

Before that ad, most of us suspected Newt was little more than a political whore.

That ad merely removed all doubt.

You know what was surprising to me, formerly an extreme leftist who read the Kyoto Protocol and came to the conclusion that she had been a dummycrat and committed herself to becoming a Democrat, was that right before he made that ad, he had written a great article on geothermal energy. He (and Callista, but is it necessary to add this every time we say his name?) had taken a trip to Iceland and had really studied the argument. It was so well-conceived that I had considered that he could be the mechanism to really expunge Gorism from the public sphere.

So I’m not sure that he was trying to get attention at any price. I can give him the benefit of the doubt that he meant that we should not be afraid to argue the facts with the left, take it on as it were, but it was a monumental miscalculation to go about it that way. He became simply a tool.

agreed. this is serious “1984” stuff, that science has been so perverted.
when they are caught doctoring 100 year old temperatures adjusting them downward to increase the “warming trend”,
someone should have gone to jail.
and chemical readings show CO2 levels were much higher in the 1800’s. and went DOWN in the 1960’s.
not to mention data showing the world has gotten colder since 2003, not warmer.
this is the greatest, most costly hoax in human history.

I remember feeling angry when I first saw that ad. I couldn’t, for the life of me, figure out WHAT IN THAT SAM HILL NEWT THOUGHT HE WAS DOING!!!!

Seems Newt is wondering the same thing now, but is only 2 years late.
