The first hint of polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs' defense strategy came Monday when his attorney said his right to freedom of religion was trampled by Texas prosecutors, who claim he sexually assaulted two underage girls after manipulating them into "spiritual marriages."
Jury selection began Monday in the case of the 55-year-old ecclesiastical head of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, an offshoot of mainstream Mormonism that believes polygamy brings exaltation in heaven. The church's 10,000 members see Jeffs as a prophet.

If this case gets dragged out until the Super Tuesday primaries it could destroy Mitt Romney’s primary election chances.
Looks like he wants his 72 virgins now rather than in the afterlife!
Things like gay marriage will give these guys a big defense point in the courts.
this sounds familiar, to another “Holy” Prophet,
who also was given a “Holy” book, and polygamy from God,
who married a girl at age 6, and has sex with her at 9,
when he was age 56...
“sexually assaulted two underage girls after manipulating them into “spiritual marriages.”
believes polygamy brings exaltation in heaven. The church’s 10,000 members see Jeffs as a prophet.”
He’s a pervert.
He’ll hopefully be put away for the rest of his life.
On the other hand, Texas will soon be getting some new Mormons.
he sexually assaulted two underage girls after manipulating them into “spiritual marriages.”
He was just obeying “the founder” of his religion...
sex with minors is his religious freedom now?
You are absolutely correct.
Polygamous (polyandry, polygyny) is closer to human nature than homosexual coupling.
If homosexual coupling is mainstreamed into current society, then polygamous coupling MUST be allowed and embraced. Also, human-beast coupling is next to be allowed since in nature, inter-species coupling happens all the time.
How Mormons can look down on Warren Jeffs and not look down on their own prophet who did exactly the same stuff is beyond me.
“We have the right to brainwash our kids and rape our 12-year-old daughters!”
They have a better PR department, and a better historical eraser.
