Imagine the State-run media, U.S. Senate & House RATS, Civil Rights Groups, etc., if this were being done by G.W., Reagan, or any other Republican. The fit would hit the shan!!!

I’m sure the press will drill down to this Obama administration cell hacking just like they are with the owner of Fox news.

Just the other day the local news informed us that GM was testing communication between their electric cars and the smart grid.

If they’re able to communicate, they’re able to track.

There are certain circumstances where that authority may exist

From whom?

The authority to do anything comes from either the Constitution or the laws passed by the very people he's speaking to.

So where would he get such "authority" without them knowing about it?

Or maybe he just figures he's appointed by Divine Right and doesn't owe anyone an explanation.

If so...then I’ll make it a habit to drive by the local Mosque....then the gun store...then the airport everyday....with GPS going.

That was a very lawyerly answer - a NON answer, answer:

He left open the possibility that they perform telephone intercept even in cases in which they have no formal authority to do so.

And everyone knows that has been going on for DECADES.

One of the myriad reasons why I will not own a cell phone. Don't have one, don't need one, won't ever get one. Ever.

When you decide to go after the SOBs leave your cell phone at a McDonalds or the Library.

This has been happening for years. The ability to track cell phones continues to used by law enforcement to catch guys, while they’re running from the police. Its how they go after terrorists and insurgents during combat op’s. Can it be used and abused by the government, but in some instances, there are quite a few bad guys in jail because of that technology.

Don’t worry, they’ll be tracking your car soon enough. They’ll call it a ‘mileage tax’, just to make it sound less nasty...but some of us know their motivation.
