WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Weaker orders for airplanes and automobiles translated into a steeper-than-forecast 2.1% decline in durable-goods orders in June, the Commerce Department estimated Wednesday.

for durable-goods orders, raising fears that manufacturing is running out of steam after leading a tepid recovery over the past two years. Without a strong manufacturing sector, it is hard to see how forecasts of a strong second-half recovery can be realized.

The decline was a surprise to even the closest observers. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch had been forecasting a flat reading.

When companies are STILL not hiring and with food and energy inflation, no wonder we had this result.

if you can, hold-out on any purchases until the Labor Day weekend sales. They need to reduce current inventories before the holiday season starts.

Permanence is the illusion of every age - Mark Steyn

Today, we will head out to SAM'S to increase our stocks of "non-durable goods" - foodstuffs, soap, detergents, vitamins, batteries, etc. I suspect we will need them soon.

This country is headed over the cliff shortly unless this exploding debt is stopped in it's tracks through a draconian contraction of our corrupt and monster government. That's unlikely to happen, given the Marxist and effete views of the political classes who now control Washington and are sucking this country dry.

In the meanwhile, I expect we'll probably have to survive on these "non-durable goods" for a while until the zombie hordes (or what's left of them) from the burning cities rampage out this far.

This country is coming apart soon. It seems less and less likely every day it can be saved from destruction. The blowup is going to be ugly when it happens - and it will occur quickly. All those millions of clueless chumps surfing their iPods, sipping lattes, and thinking this is just more "Tea Party" hype to deprive them of their just due are going to be caught with their pants down. They think this insane death-dance can go on forever. It can't and won't.

If our Founding Fathers were around today to see this charade, they would be weeping. They would also be grabbing for their muskets...
