Urban farming is nothing more than another money grab. When they talk about it in Detroit they see billions of federal dollars for soil restoration.
Meanwhile, a few miles away are farms slowly returning to forest. Soil that only needs to be tilled to be ready to farm.
How much taxes will escalate is to be determined. “The government” will likely have to spend, er...I mean invest, a few billion in this (literally) shovel ready project.

If they have farms in the city, will the feral reidents raid the farm? Will they ... uhh ... "pollute" the fields?
Yes they will.
So, the urban farm idea just isn't going to work. The key thing though, is that the effort to "start" urban farms may allow a lot of city money to flow toward certain individuals for political gain.
This is not about economics. This is not about food. This is about machine politics.
More government jobs, sure that’s the ticket. Plus they’ll probably give the produce away to those less fortunate. Another entitlement - produce. Are personal chefs next??

I’m assuming they mean indoors under lights as produce doesn’t do that will under snow.
First they forced banks to loan money in the Inner Cities, although everyone knew that the banks would essentially be handing out cash and property, because most of the inner city residents couldn’t and/or wouldn’t ever pay the loans back. Now they are trying to force retailers to open stores in the inner cities, using the old “racism” club if they refuse. The reason retailers don’t want to open stores in the Inner Cities is the increased cost of security, and the losses from shoplifting, robberies and vandalism that will far outweigh any profit they will ever see from these stores. So essentially, those of us in suburban and rural areas are going to be “subsidizing” these inner city stores through increased food prices.
Great idea. And the residents can receive free food, shelter, medical care, etc., in exchange for working the plantat.....errrrr.....I mean, Community Gardens.

there is a “community organization” in a particularly shabby part of Pittsburgh that is conducting something it calls a “vacant lot survey” right now.
The purpose of which I am sure is to identify bits of private property that are being “misused” by their private owners, and which could be put to much greater community benefit by applying a little of the Iron Fist O’ Government.
Their website has a photo of a lot containing billboards for Rent-A-Center and McDonalds. That could be put to much better use as an Organic Community Garden I’m sure.
