AUSTIN, Texas (Reuters) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection inspectors returned 33 Mexican soldiers on Tuesday who inadvertently crossed over the Rio Grande river into Texas, authorities said.
The soldiers, packed into four Humvees, crossed over the Donna-Rio Bravo International Bridge into south Texas at around 2 p.m., said Felix Garza, a spokesman for CBP in Pharr, Texas.
"They crossed the boundary line on the bridge. Once they did that they were forced to continue traveling to our primary inspection area," Garza told Reuters.
"They were processed according to protocols, and they were released and returned to Mexico without incident or charges," he added, declining to say whether the troops were armed.
In a statement late Tuesday, the Mexican military said the troops "unintentionally" crossed over the bridge while they were carrying out reconnaissance on the border.

“U.S. returns 33 Mexican troops who strayed into Texas”
Uh, how do you stray across the Rio Grande?
German troops strayed into Paris in 1940. But you know how tedious French paperwork can be. It was four years before the processing could be completed and the Germans sent on their way.
“Uh, how do you stray across the Rio Grande?”
Well, first Americans elect a communist that wants as many illegals voting Dem as possible.....
US Military prison should have been their place to stay for quite a while, and especially if they were armed. Surprised they weren’t shot . . . but then with an illegal alien muslim in our White House, nothing should surprise me.
It’s that proprietary Mexican GPS system: It doesn’t say “USA” until they cross into South Dakota.
I wondered the same thing ... “inadvertently crossed over the Rio Grande river into Texas”
But it was on a bridge.
Lead vehicle went the wrong way, too far and got stuck in a traffic queue.
When I heard of these incidents previously I thought someone strayed over an invisible line out in the desert. But to drive over an international bridge is really inexcusable.
That's a start, but don't stop with just those.
Seriously, if they went to a legal border crossing and had to process through our immigration to be able to turn around, it looks more likely that Pedro driving the first car went into the wrong lane than the first strike of the reconquista. If they were a few miles away driving across the river I wouldn't be so generous in my opinion.
I’ve never been there, but I know at the Canadian border you cannot turn around once you go across the line. Not that you are not “allowed” to turn around, but rather, you physically cannot turn around.
When I saw the headline I thought this was a big deal. Now I see that they did something I’ve done myself. Stupid, but excusable.
“It was four years before the processing could be completed and the Germans sent on their way.”
And that only with a HUGE load of American, British, Canadian, and other allied help.
if it was 33 drunken sailors,, I could see it.. this is just ridiculous.. Our borders are secure? my arse.
When younger, I kept getting in the wrong lane near Niagara and crossed the border 4 times in about 15 minutes before I figured out where I was trying to go.
I kept using the same booth as it speeded the process up the repeated times.
You people have to study up on international laws. As an occupying force, Mexico has the right to send its military into the United States any time it desires, just like the Allied Powers and Russia could send their troops into any part of occupied Berlin during the Cold War.
We are lucky that the Mexicans are so compassionate and understanding. They could have sent huge armies into our country in retaliation, and created no fly zones over Texas.
Of course, these provocations won’t last much longer. Soon Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, and parts of Northern Virginia, Georgia, Colorado, and Florida will be annexed by their rightful owner, Mexico. Like Rhodesia and South Africa, the white colonist oppressors will be kicked out or wiped out as control is assumed by the caudillos hispanicos.
On a bridge, when you pass the midway point you are in the US.
Looks like they were playing "chicken" or maybe they were "in hot pursuit" of someone or something. Although 33 men in a truck (or several) sounds like they were seriously "on a mission". Maybe they were returning some those of fast & furious guns the ATF "mislaid".
Regards,
GtG
I am glad it was not a brigade of troops accompanied by one tank. The imbecile in the White House would have immediately surrendered unconditionally and transferred Texas to Mexico as part of the pre-drafted peace treaty.
