No, the WSJ is embarrassingly wrong.

For starters, the author of the editorial failed at accurately presenting his (her?) own analogy.

“and the tea-party Hobbits could return to Middle Earth having defeated Mordor.”

When did the Hobbits leave Middle Earth?

The hobbits didn’t *leave* Middle Earth when they journeyed forth from The Shire.
