Potential Debt Limit ‘Plan C’ Emerges, Democrats Say (GOP ready to shaft Conservatives, again)
Fox News ^ | 7/28/2011 | Ed Henry

Posted on 07/28/2011 8:04:31 PM PDT by tobyhill

Democratic officials are cautiously optimistic that the outlines of a potential compromise – a “Plan C” – are emerging that could bridge the differences between plans pushed by House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.

The officials said President Obama has spent the past couple of days quietly reaching out to leaders in both parties to try and start hammering out the details, though it's clear this is still only in the discussion phase and they are not close to a deal yet.

Senate Budget Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., hinted at such a compromise earlier Thursday during an interview on Fox News.

“Let me just say behind the scenes there are discussions underway to find a way forward,” said Conrad. “To how would you harmonize what Leader Reid has come up with and Speaker Boehner has come up with and I'm increasingly of the view that we can do that. That’s good news.”

The focus of this round of talks is on what kind of "trigger" mechanism the debt ceiling legislation will have to guarantee that a new special committee of Congress actually follows up with real spending cuts later this year. And whether or not positive action by the committee will allow the president to get more leeway on another lift in the debt ceiling so there’s no repeat of the current debate early next year.

Yep. I was hoping this was one of the .03% chance he is wrong.

Dear House Republicans:

YOU ARE THE F'ING MAJORITY!!!

STOP ACCEPTING THE PREMISE THAT WE MUST INCREASE THE DEBT CEILING!!!

INCREASING THE DEBT CEILING IS YOUR COMPROMISE!!!

THE REST OF THE COMPROMISING IS UP TO THE DEMOCRATS!!!!!!!

The TEA Party is holding firm. They have enough to block the RINO’s and the old party isn’t scaring them.

Excellent post. That is exactly what is going to happen. And then we won’t have the chance to make real changes.

From the article: “...But a big caveat here: If Senate Republicans were to sign on to such a deal, it would of course still need to get back through the House, where many conservatives would balk. As one senior House Republican aide told Fox News, “I hope the president can get a ton of (Democratic) House votes then” to get it through the chamber.”

- Everything you need to know about what’s really going on is in that quote from the House Repub aide...

Boner’s bill doesn’t get passed tonight and suddenly the DIMS, who have been relatively quiet all day, are coming out of the woodwork with all kinds of news?

Doesn't smell good does it?

The problem is that Boehner, McConnell, McCain, Biden and Reid will start negotiating and leave the Tea Party out in the cold.
Boehner planned to sell us out from the start after pretending to hold strong.

I do believe you're right. I just felt like ranting a bit.
And
Possibly I'm getting a bit cynical in my old age.

I shudder to think what this thing will eventually look like.

We’re screwed no matter what. We refuse to pass a bill and we’re the troublemakers.

We pass a bill and it will look like something Ted Kennedy on his worst bender ever, came up with.

Does Boehner think that “CHARGE” means wheel around and run away from the fight?

If I were the Freshmen, I’d be holding constant meetings, so they don’t get picked off.

Perhaps they should make all communications with the leaders public.

It is evident that "moderates" from both parties are willing to find some common ground to effect an increase in the debt limit while the polar opposites in each party refuse to compromise under any circumstance.

Good luck on changing the game.

If Boehner goes against the TEA party and passes a Democrat plan from the House, he and the critters can kiss their ass goodbye. Obama will have shattered the GOP.

We know Libs can destroy us, “moderates” already have destroyed us but Conservatives can save us.

This is how I feel. I’m getting flamed.

Anyway, I agree with your assessment. But I do hold hope for a better bill that can be passed. I’d kind of like to take advantage of our momentum next fall.

I think Boehner walking out of the talks was a cover for him and this plan. Anything done behind closed doors should be suspect with these clowns.

Plan C has always been in the works and we aren’t going to like the treachery of the Republican leadership or how the Dems trash us over with this plan.

The deal was made and we will now be living in the bankruptcy.

I will live and die as a Conservative....but, not necessarily a Republican. After this election cycle, I am looking at a third party movement. The American people are not going to stand for this...

The democrats want one thing and that is to get this past the next election. In fact, they knew they’d never get a tax increase through the house so they stuck that out there as something they could compromise on. And the stupid GOP fell for it hook, line and sinker.

There is no Reid Plan and if there were it would not get out of the Senate, let's get that point straight up front. The only thing to be bridged is the amount of the debt limit increase. Boehner's bill raises the debt Limit about $1 trillion which give about 6 months of borrowing authority Reid wants at least 18 months which would require about $3 trillion more in debt limit increase.

So where will the money for plan "C" come from? Why tax increases or cuts to entitlements of course. Now what chance would that have in the Senate or the House?

This is why the only option is to bring back CCB.

But to have a plan "C" Boehner's bill has to pass so maybe the House RATs better let it be known that they would vote for his bill.

It is becoming a plan as to how to defeat or protect the President. These old time players no longer care about America.
