$4 million Trinity River attraction too dangerous to use

DALLAS — A multimillion dollar whitewater course along the Trinity River in Dallas is complete, but the park isn't open.

And it won't open until a major problem is fixed.

Kayaker Justin Blake is one of the few who dares ride the rough water at The Dallas Waves park. Officially, it's closed; too dangerous, city leaders say.

Blake now understands why after riding it for the first time this week. "You could get seriously injured if you're not careful," he said.

The city spent millions of dollars adding concrete dams to create the whitewater rapids.

If you don’t drown or die of poisoning, you’ll get shot by the thriving neighborhood of crack addicts and gangbangers a mile away.

Ha Ha! Your tax dollars at work. Probably saved or created 15 jobs. Not bad Dallas...

Theoretically it is not for swimming. Theoretically- provided you don’t get dumped out of the kayak. But hey- look at the dollars spent. Look at the jobs created. Look at the overall stupidity of the whole thing. That is the goal- which was met.

The Dallas City Employees likely paid for this boondoggle with furloughs, lay offs, and pay cuts along with sharp increases in benefit cuts. The Trinity river is one of the dirtiest in the state of TX. You sure would not want to land in the water or you would likely be in the hospital.

You got that right. I ride the levee down yonder on my bike sometimes, just for the helluvit. Back in the day we would drive around in the mud in our Jeeps, you could cross the river in a couple of spots. You could drive from Oak Cliff to Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, good times.

I always heard in summer the river was 85% treated sewage, not sure about the remainder, prolly untreated sewage. We used to find barrels stacked on barrels of who knows what, burned out vehicles, people shooting, people procreating, people stumbling down the road drunk as hell, and lots of ripped off newspaper machines. I’ll never forget the New Year’s Eve we spent sitting on the levee in sight of downtown Dallas, waiting for Rick Nelson to perform in the Plaza of the Americas. It was on my portable TV we heard his plane went down on the way there.

Now, they want to build a kayak run through there, and beautiful parks, a toll road, shops and cafes. Yeah, right. Mayor Laura had a lot to do with trying to build a Greenbelt through there, that’s just stoopid.

Indeed, at certain points during the year, half the volume of that river in the downtown Dallas area is probably the outflow from the waste water treatment plant in Grand Prairie.

Brought to you by the same people who want to build a highway inside the levees.

Recently, Eddie Bernice Johnson said John Wiley Price was too unethical to govern. That’s the pot calling the kettle . . . . oh, wait a minute.

Nothing has come out to the public, as far as I know. Guy is a creep, “Our Man Downtown.” All the crap he has pulled over the years, he ain’t no pal of mine.

I hope he ends up in the same cell Al Lipscomb was in for a while (God rest his soul).

And certainly don’t forget about the Village Creek Treatment Plant, In North Arlington, where about 80% of Tarrant County sends its chit.

Anybody living in “North A” has really enjoyed that facility on a very humid still night.
