Reid: ‘Extremists Have Locked Down This Congress’

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) said he would never agree to a debt ceiling deal that would require another vote before the end of 2012, and blamed “extremists” from blocking a deal now.

A reporter asked Reid Friday if he would be open to a compromise allowing another vote before the end of 2012.“No, no, no. We cannot be in this battle all the time,” Reid said.

“Right now the extremists have locked down this Congress,” Reid continued. “We’re doing nothing. The extremists have locked down the White House. They’re not able to do their work. The country is in an economic malaise and they want to keep this up.”

Why aren't the Republican leadership just as bombastic? The rhetoric does resonate so why not fight back?

I know...I despise these elitist Washington insiders who tell us we have to keep spending our way into bankruptcy and running up more federal debt or else the sky will fall. What a load of BS. It's all the excessive spending and the ongoing social security and Medicare Ponzi schemes that are wrecking our economy. We cannot continue to pay out much more in social security and medicare benefits than our people pay into these systems in taxes. It doesn't work financially...obviously that leads to huge exploding deficits.

We have to start cutting entitlement benefits for affluent retirees and start NOW! We don't care if that makes if harder for elitist insiders like Reid, Pelosi, Hoyer, and McCain to get reelected. We don't care if the seniors get bothered by economic truth and reality. Entitlement spending has to be cut now and if that makes it harder for liberals to be reelected, if that bothers the idiots at moveon.org, I DON'T CARE! Start cutting benefits for affluent retirees now. Start by calculating how much people paid into the system and how much they've received in benefits, and start cutting back the benefits for people with high incomes who have received much more than they paid into the system. That's fair and right, whereas tax increases on working people and risk-taking investors and the stealth tax of higher inflation are not fair to younger Americans.

I'm sorry, but Harry, what budget spending cut leadership did the Senate provide this County in the fall of 2010, when this year's federal fiscal budget was suppose to be drafted?

If there had been debate last year on spending levels with public comment and political compromise resulting in a conference committee budget sent to the President for signature, would the earlier budget showdown and now the debt ceiling debates have been as partisan?

That was a rhetorical question Harry!

True. Harry. It was very extreme of you to promise to toss out TWO House bills without any debate whatsoever.

Dear Harry,

Psychological projection or projection bias is a psychological defense mechanism where a person subconsciously denies his or her own attributes, thoughts, and emotions, which are then ascribed to the outside world, usually to other people. Thus, projection involves imagining or projecting the belief that others originate those feelings.

Excerpted from Wikipedia.

“They dont want to be talking about balancing the budget when the Usurper is running for President in 2012.
That is the only hold up in this deal Obama’s 2012 run.”

Agree. This whole drama is being driven by his political schedule. The Usurper is terrified of having a budget discussion next year and will do virtually anything, no matter how damaging to the country, to avoid budgetary specifics and his runaway spending. Republicans really have him over a barrell on this and must not back off. This is the proverbial ace in-the-hole.

If the Congress is locked down , it is the De mocrats that did the locking, and all the crap they are putting out isn’t fooling anyone with the IQ greater than 75.

I think Nancy Pelosi has lost what little mind she had left and Harry Reid is owned and operated by Obama.

RESPONSES  TO  CHARGES  OF  "EXTREMISM"
__________________

"Extreme?"

"If by 'extreme' you mean principled, then I accept your calling me that, even though I find it distasteful.  However, if you mean 'too outrageous to take seriously,' then I reject your epithet and call into question your motives.  Are you one of those people who think politicians and bureaucrats should be allowed to mess with your life any time they want?  Or any time 'the majority' wants?  Is the concept of the sovereign individual citizen so unthinkable to you that you consider it 'extreme'?  Or are you so defensive about how sloppy a thinker you are that you resent, and are even hostile to, people who strive for intellectual clarity?  Or are you just so comfortable in your intellectual mediocrity that you can't be bothered to think about the long-term consequences of your principles or lack thereof, and hate to be challenged to?

"I consider the term  'extremism' to be a word deliberately chosen for its vagueness and used by intellectual slobs who are too desperate, sneaky or lazy to say exactly what they mean.  Its only purpose is to deliberately try to confuse the difference between people who are extremely good (usually because of devotion to their principles) with people who are extremely bad.  The sleazeballs who use this supposedly scary, yet undefined, word are not only trying to smear people of conviction and integrity, but they're also trying to divert attention away from the fact that they are obviously not people of principle themselves." -- Rick Gaber

"If an uncompromising stand is to be smeared as 'extremism,' then that smear is directed at any devotion to values, any loyalty  to principles, any profound conviction, any consistency, any steadfastness, any passion, any dedication to an unbreached, inviolate truth -- any man of integrity." -- Ayn Rand in " 'Extremism' or The Art of Smearing", Chapter 17 of Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal

"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice!  And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue!"
--  Karl Hess and Barry Goldwater; attribution to Cicero

"A moderate is either someone who has no moral code of  his own, or if he does, then he's someone who doesn't have the guts to take sides between good and evil." – Rick Gaber

"In any compromise between good and evil, it is only evil that can profit." --Ayn Rand

"Extremism in pursuit of moderation is not necessarily a virtue." -- Jonah Goldberg

"In matters of principle, stand like a rock." -- Thomas Jefferson

"I suppose people who vilify those who make judgments on a moral basis (instead of, or in addition to, a simply legal one) are the  'moral relativists' who believe it's really bad, even evil, to make moral judgments." -- Bert Rand

Most people who use the word “extremist” use it as an “anti-concept.” According to Ayn Rand in the essay “ ‘Extremism,’ or The Art of Smearing,” (Chapter 17 of Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal) the purpose of anti-concepts is “to obliterate certain concepts without public discussion.”

"If you want government to intervene domestically, you're a liberal. If you want government to intervene overseas, you're a conservative. If you want government to intervene everywhere, you're a moderate. If you don't want government to intervene anywhere, you're an extremist." -- Joseph Sobran (1995)

"The Democrats and Republicans stand at two extremes, characterized by which parts of our lives they emphasize their desire to control.  Libertarians reject both extremes in favor of the government leaving control of your life to you." -- Michael Badnarik (2004)

No Reid. You’re the pathetic leader of the non-statesmen in the senate. You’re such a pathetic loser, you wouldn’t even bring the first House bill to the floor. Loser!
