McCotter calls for a truce between Republicans, Tea Party
The Hill, Washington DC ^ | 2011-07-30 | Peter Kasperowicz

Posted on 07/30/2011 5:50:53 PM PDT by rabscuttle385

Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (Mich.), a Republican presidential candidate, called Saturday morning for Republicans and the Tea Party to stop fighting and work together to help save the country, presumably from Democratic policies, although he was not specific.

"On the right, take note," McCotter said on the House floor. "It is as unwarranted and injurious for a Republican to call a Tea Partier a hobbit as it is for a Tea Partier to call a Republican a RINO."

McCotter was referring to a comment earlier this month from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), who compared Tea Partiers to hobbits. That sparked rebukes from Tea Party sympathizers, including from Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and other Tea Party favorites. The derisive term "RINO" is an acronym for "Republican in name only."

Paul was quoted in the press saying he'd rather be a hobbit than a troll because "the hobbits were heroes" in J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings series.

"We cannot unite America if we divide the movement," McCotter warned. "Consequently, the time has come for the Tea party to grow up and the Republican Party to wake up and come together to serve and save this great nation."

Go ahead, call us hobbits. Just don’t deny us the right to call a RINO a RINO.

True, but now that half of the population pay no federal tax the game is lost. The culture necessary to produce the America that was so successful for 150 years has degraded to a point that we will not be able to restore our once great political experiment to it’s former glory. Our lost culture cannot be legislated back into existence...more’s the pity. We live in interesting times, 235 years ain’t bad for a republic. But I fear it is going to get ugly soon.

McCotter admonished both sides. He’s saying fight Dems, not other Republicans.

There is very little difference between a Democrat and a RINO. Yes RINOs are real and are an enemy to the tea party.

FYI, my Hobbit name is Togo Proudfoot.

Democracy... while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide.

There once was a lad named McCotter
Ladies thought, whose hair made him hotter.
He spoke from his heart
taking many a dart.
Speaking truth, which he said quite a lott’er :D

"McCotter is saying that RINOs need to work with the tea party. Specifically McCain needs to grow up.

Read the article again.

It specifically quotes McCotter. "We cannot unite America if we divide the movement," McCotter warned. "Consequently, the time has come for the Tea party to grow up and the Republican Party to wake up and come together to serve and save this great nation."

If you're comfortable with someone telling you to grow up (assuming you're a Tea Party believer), so be it.

As a Tea Party member, I find his statement to be derogatory, offensive, and out of touch with the reality of the situation. Especially in light of his effort to persuade others to abandon name calling.

He’s admonishing both sides.

Nothing wrong with getting worked up and acting like hobbits.

Nothing wrong with someone to get in the middle and try to calm both sides now, either. McCotter wasn’t picking sides.

Really he’s a very strong intellect, and probably the funniest guy in Congress. He’s not the enemy.

That is an ironic statement from our first liberal president. His 11th hour appointments after losing to Jefferson gave us Marshall and Marbury v. Madison.

Yes, he is the enemy. He very clearly is stating we need to knock off attacking his buddies in congress and get our asses in line to defeat DEMS. I am not a Republican and I won’t be corraled into supporting them when they sale us out as he did by voting for Boehner’s bill. I do not live and breathe to see the GOP installed in cushy offices and cry over the transfer of gavels.

Americans were united on cutting spending even if the Republicans weren’t serious about it. We didn’t have to unite with Republicans to win that unity, we were doing just fine building it on our own. They are just to utless and unserious about cutting our debt to act on it.

Well, duh. I guess the part about the name-calling went right over your head.

I was going to tell you to grow up...but I'm thinking you just need to...wake up.
