They know they can’t win if unemployment is still well over 8%, the recession is continuing, etc. Their only ‘blessing’ at present is that inflation/interest rates have stayed low and off the radar.

I think there are a lot of games going on.
One game is that the short term deal ($1T now, $1.5T when it runs out) is advantageous to those worried about primary challengers, Republican and Democrat. I think Obama overplayed his hand when he demanded $1.2T in taxes which would have weakened Republican incumbents but not Democrat incumbents. The compromise let’s them both get past their primaries before voting again.

I don't see that happening. 0bama may decide not to run, but 0bama's message is the same for any democRat - More taxes, more spending, more government.

The only reason inflation rates have stayed “low” is because they no longer include energy or food. Go to a grocery store and tell me we have no food inflation. Hamburger now sells for more a pound that New York strip steaks did 3 years ago.

I have been saying this for a while, except my view is that the Dems will have to pull the trigger during 4Q2011
The Republicans are in a strong position, if they don’t choose to throw it away (as usual). If the House Repubs hold the line on the debt ceiling and force Dems to make cuts THIS YEAR on programs, it will set the various Dem constituencies fighting among each other over who deserves full funding, which would damage them into 2012.
If the economy is this bad by early next year (it won’t be, it will be worse) NO DEMOCRAT will be able to win. They would be smarter to let him go down in crushing defeat, apologize for his existence and then gear up for the next election.

The Debt Ceiling has already been raised under Obama Hussein three times by the Demorats before the Tea Party won the House! and we never hear by how much as well!! The debt ceiling has already been raised by most likely FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS under OBAMA HUSSEIN before this latest TWO and a Half TRILLION the Terrorist is demanding now! After the GOP cowars yet again, we will have a Debt Ceiling of SEVENTEEN TRILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!! Don’t argue with my math, I am an engineer who grew up with a slide rule, we work to 4-5 significant figures and that got us to the Moon and the Space Shuttle and Space Stations and Satellites, GPS, and Cell Phones! Now we cant figure out how to find a legitimate Birth Certificate or if Obama is really a Muslim in the Closet!

I think they might run Hillary, or they might simply throw in the towel, live in ignominy for a couple decades, and then plan around a genuinely strong candidate. Either way, they are going to have to restructure and develop a new sort of candidate, preferably not one that is Socialist/Communist.
