South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham (R) announced Monday he will oppose a deal to raise the debt limit by between $2.1 trillion and $2.4 trillion, putting pressure on House Republicans.
Grahams opposition is significant because it will make it difficult for any of the five Republicans in South Carolinas House delegation to support the deal.
I cannot in good conscience support this deal. Simply stated, it locks us into more debt, bigger government and most devastating of all, a weakened defense infrastructure at a time when we face growing threats, Graham said in a statement released Monday morning.
This agreement adds over $7 trillion in new debt over the next decade and only makes small reductions in future spending. We hardly address the future growth of entitlements, a major contributor of future budgetary problems. Instead of our nation running toward bankruptcy we will be walking toward bankruptcy, he added.
Sen. Jim DeMint (R), South Carolinas other senator, also opposes the deal.
Im not going to tell Americans that were doing everything when were not, he said. Were planning on adding another $10 trillion in debt.
From the way its been explained to me theres not much to like, he added.
DeMint said he will not allow a Senate vote until he and his staff have had a chance to thoroughly review the legislation.

The GOP totally caved. You can tell when Graham has the biggest balls in the room (DeMint excepted of course).
Political cover...they know it’s a done deal.
and I like DeMint a lot...a whole lot.
Any Republican House member that votes for this catastrophe which even Lindsey Graham recognizes needs to be primaried and removed from office.
They are giving Obama trillions in new spending, cutting the rate of increase in spending only $24 billion next year, setting up HUGE tax increase or cuts to defense next year.
I can’t imagine a more dishonest “deal”.
The GOP folded in the Senate. The House may be an entirely different matter.
Bring on the default! Lets have it.
Agreed.
Miss Lindsey knows he will be primaried out of the Boyz Klub. Too little, too late.
Everyone should contact their members of Congress immediately!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Total political cover for the closeted one.
Well I&ll be damned...even a BROKEN CLOCK IS CORRECT twice a day!!
The GOP has just endorsed Obamacare and high-speed rail.
Since when did Graham become a conservative? LOL
They counted the votes and Grammesty gets a token pass on this one. RATS win without needing Lindsey’s vote.
Marco Rubio also said he is a “no.”
There doesn’t have to be a default. They will just have to cut spending to meet revenues.
There are plenty of places where deep cuts can be made without hurting anyone, except useless federal workers, of course.
What are you talking about ?
What?
Just a quick reminder:
- The House passed a repeal of Obamacare
- The House passed CCB
The House needs more reinforcements, in both electable branches
