Reckon this is one of the reason the Texas Leg. didn’t bother with trying to push through a similar bill. (or even an anti-sanctuary bill)

It is.
We have so many Mexicans in Texas that is necessary to have some in your hip pocket to win an election. Perry knows this. Its either alienate them and get your butt kicked out by a democrat, or play your cards like a poker player and keep a few on your side.
I don't like it any better than anyone else, but its about survival. You run that mouthy anti-hispanic rhetoric out there enough, you'll be back at Home Depot or State Farm.
