The Civil War was a different picture. The South was outnumbered, but around 40% of the total population took up arms.
Around 320 million people today. About a 90 million are gun owners. Assume most gun owners lean politically Right-ward... We have the advantage in numbers. Even if only 3% of us actually stand up to fight.
Nor will it. Most people, for better or worse, by virtue of innocence or by fault of courage, are sheep. People who strive and rise and earn and compete are lions. People who would steal the labor of others are jackals.
Push the lions hard enough, and you'll wind up uniting them. Sheep might fear the jackals, but they fear the lions more.
The biggest mistake that the left is making right now is giving their enemies a common banner to unite under, and clear reason to be worried. Subterfuge served them much better. Coming out of the closet, so to speak, will create clear battle lines, and get the lions organizing.

I have seen historical articles where it is 1/3 were for independence and 1/3 were torries (and mostly in NY) and the remaining 1/3 were indifferent.
the 10% your mention could just have been the actual soldiers. Given that only men and soldier age appropriate were fighting it might then make sense.
I find it very hard to limit the fight to 10% when the battle is literally in your own back yard.
