A number of Norway stores have pulled violent video games from sale - including Call of Duty games and World of Warcraft - in the wake of the massacre carried out by Anders Behring Breivik.
According to Danish gaming website Gamer's Globe, a spokesperson for Coop Norway said: 'In light of Friday's horrific events, and out of respect for those affected, we have chosen to remove selected items from our range.'
The site says that the affected games are Call of Duty: Black Ops; CoD: Modern Warfare 2; CoD: World at War Platinum; CoD 4: Modern Warfare Classic; Homefront; Sniper: Ghost Warrior; Counter-Strike Source; and World of Warcraft.
According to Norwegian local paper Rogalands Avis, the stores have said that the removals are 'temporary', but that they will 'think twice' about stocking the games again. A spokesperson added that: 'Others are better qualified than us to point to the repercussions these games have.'
Norwegian entertainment store Platekompaniet has also removed certain games from sale.
In what is likely to be the section most eagerly seized on by opponents of gaming, Breivik says several times that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 can be used as one part of gun training, writing: 'I see MW2 more as a part of my training-simulation than anything else. Ive still learned to love it though and especially the multiplayer part is amazing. You can more or less completely simulate actual operations.'
However, he writes elsewhere that he doesn't consider games to be a full substitute for live marksmanship training, and says that he is only playing MW2 'casually'.

What a bunch of panzie asses!! What’s this world coming to?
Isn’t that horse out of the barn?
World of Warcraft??? That game isn’t even violent...
Yeah, it’s not like they have the internet there.
Vikings my ass.
If they had their cops playing these games, maybe they would have rushed in to prevent the slaughter instead of waiting for the monster to spend all of his ammo on children.
Norway land of socialist dumbasses.
Well, I know I feel safer now.
Tens of millions worldwide play Call of Duty, and you blame it for one guy going beserk?
............21 years in Ikea.
Good one. And highly accurate.
I worked for Ikea for a brief stint....I’d rather get the chair.
Yeah, that was the problem. Video games.
The Poang chair or the Tullsta chair?
They need to arm police and provide more equipment for
police: police boats and helicopters.
