Paul Ryan: Where's Your Budget, Mr. President? (Why did your party fudge numbers to pass Obamacare?)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 08/03/2011 | Paul Ryan

Posted on 08/03/2011 6:55:23 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

Ever since they fudged the numbers to pass ObamaCare, Democrats have abandoned credible spending plans.

During the negotiations over raising the debt ceiling, President Obama reportedly warned Republican leaders not to call his bluff by sending him a bill without tax increases. Republicans in Congress ignored this threat and passed a bill that cuts more than a dollar in spending for every dollar it increases the debt limit, without raising taxes.

Yesterday, Mr. Obama signed this bill into law. He was, as he said, bluffing.

Nevertheless, the president still hasn't shown us his cards. He still hasn't put forward a credible plan to tackle the threat of ever-rising spending and debt, and his evasiveness is emblematic of the party he leads.

Ever since they abused the budget process to jam their health-care takeover through Congress last year, the Democrats have simply done away with serious budgeting altogether. The simplest explanation—and the president's real bluff—is that they don't want to commit publicly to the kind of tax increases and health-care rationing that would be required to sustain their archaic vision of government.

The president's February budget deliberately dodged the tough choices necessary to confront the threat of runaway federal spending. It was rejected unanimously in a Senate controlled by his own party.

Since then he has offered a lot of rhetoric but no real plan to avoid a spending-driven debt crisis. His speeches and press conferences are no substitutes for actual budgets with specific numbers and independently verified projections of future deficits and debt. Meanwhile, it has been over two years since the Democrat-controlled Senate passed any budget at all. This is a historic failure to fulfill one of the most basic responsibilities of governing.

This leadership deficit has thrown the federal budget process into chaos at the worst possible time.

I’m so grateful to have Paul Ryan in the House.

Does anyone know where I can find a simple list of the points contained in the Democrats-Win-America-Loses budget?

Revert to the original unemployment duration.

End SNAP/WIC/etc food subsidies immediately. Move these recipients to food stamps.

Phase out welfare in 2 years.
Phase out food stamps in 3 years.
Phase out section 8 housing in 5 years.

Raise the retirement age by 10 years, and phase out all medical reimbursements by 2050.

Allow FedEx/UPS/etc to deliver mail and make illegal unsolicited mail. End the post office.

Make federal worker unions illegal and adjust all federal pay to be within the confines of “market” for equivalent private employment.

End all bureaucracies related to the dissemination of these programs the day their program ends.

End all boards and commissions dedicated to the oversight of those bureaucracies the day their bureaucracy ends.

All ya gotta do is do it. As Rush I believe said the other day, “Do you hear wailing and screaming from the welfare crowd? No? Then we haven’t done enough yet.”

Ryan is excellent! He’s calling attention, once again, to the fact that Obama and the Dems have actually offered NOTHING to work with. They have gotten around the whole problem by simply offering no budget, and therefore they can continue to criticize the GOP for its suggestions without ever being criticized for their own...because there aren’t any.

That has been their pattern since the very beginning - flout the laws (the requirement to have a budget), work outside of them (Bambi’s czars and hundreds of new agencies under the executive), but at the same time use procedural stunts when helpful to avoid being called on any of these things (deem and pass, for example).

Why don’t you focus on what he’s saying here?

The “debt ceiling” debate was a small and hyped part of a much bigger problem, and that problem is the result of many years of mismanagement...some under previous presidents, but most spectacularly, under Bambi in just 2.5 years as president.

And this is how he has gotten away with it.

Sheesh, some Freepers are as bad as Dems: they think a particular politician should just be able to wave a magic wand and change it all. This is something that takes work, and Ryan has actually made some of the best suggestions so far. His Medicare reform program could actually have worked, but as usual, the GOP blew it on the publicity/communications front and allowed the Dems to scream that he was going to let the elderly die in the streets (which, of course, is actually the Dem plan under Bambicare).

Ya' forgot to add:

Phase out all "Dept. of . . . " where there already exists state-level "Dept. of . . . " such as Labor, Education, Housing, Agriculture, EPA, etc.

Shut down any and all Federal branches of the same.

If it is such a bad deal, they why haven’t they repealed it. instead of trying to make it an ongoing campaign issue?

Seems like the repeal of such a monstrously unpopular and fabulously expensive piece of legislation, which turned out voters high and low to abolish it, would have been a fine thing to get rid of. Call it “debt reduction” in the interests of truth, and the Senate would have a very tough time voting it down, no matter what Dingy Harry might say.

Mr. Ryan, asking us to believe you and have faith in you right after you very plainly betrayed and sold us down the river is a hard sell. We had dared hope that you were different than all those “republicans” who betrayed us in the past, that this time, things would be different. They weren’t, and you aren’t.

I look forward to contributing to your primary opponent, Mr. Ryan.

Wrong, the man has been very constant in his support of big government and spending, starting with his helping Cantor whip TARP. And it is already posted here than his friend Nancy says the debt ceiling will need to be raised again in eighteen months. What do they call doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different result.

Why is your plan Mr. Ryan just as bad? For the first 10 yrs it’s identical to 0’care, after that you start hand outs to those who supposedly can’t afford the high premiums.

That makes it just as fiscally unsound, when REFORMS of the 45+ years of quid pro quo donor palm greasing that have driven up the cost of Medicare and Medicaid are NOT addressed.

Stop allowing illegals on the programs, force Congress to be placed on Medicare instead of their private platinum health care plan. That is just a starting point.

Are you talking about repealing Obamacare?

The House voted to repeal it. The Senate voted it down.

How did Ryan sell us down the river? Details please, I don’t know what you are referring to.
