It is nearly certain that there will be a COLA increase announced in a couple of months for next year, based on the increased inflation.

The way the article read next year will be the third year in a row without an SS adjustment. My family and I have been making up the difference for our grandparents plus other needs. What graph does the government use to decide? And then too, why do they get their COLA?

Always fill in the date field, especially when posting an old article.

The sons o bitches in Washington sure got raises this year. We who are reliant on SS and retirement accounts are hosed. I WISH I were breaking even.

Why does the government get their COLA? Active duty military, and federal civilian employees don’t get COLA. They get pay raises based upon what, I know not. When I was on active duty I always thought somebody somewhere just pulled the number out of their butt.

You know next year MAY be the third year. It’s all based on 3rd qtr CPI-W. and it needs to be higher than CPI-W for JUN JUL AUG 2008 for SS recipients and retired military to get COLA.

Here this may help.

>>This has to be tough on the old folks depending on SS. Food prices going through the roof, high electricity bills to keep from dieing from heat stroke, higher gasoline prices.....I feel for them.<<

Social Security takes the inflation of everything into account EXCEPT food and fuel. There has been no inflation anywhere except in food and fuel costs.

Yes, they knew what they were doing when they did this.

How does it feel to be screwed by your government constantly - SS recipients, soldiers, etc. The very 1st thing people should do is tell D.C. to take a flying f%$#. How many of us are going to see their house rep over this month - Those worthless establishment frauds that voted for the "set-up" budget bill.

This is going to explode in a lot of faces.
Speaking for myself, I have no problem with no COLA increase two years running.

I AM belligerent that all elected officials and government employees blithely don't feel obligated to "share the pain," by sharing the same basis and formula as us for annual wage increases.

THAT WILL NOT STAND.

WE Pay THEIR salaries!
Perhaps they should revisit the Master-Servant concept.

Everything looked like it was going up so it begs the question as to why SS recipients didn’t get an adjustment where government employees did. And the media is where, exactly, in all this?

The way Government budgets from year to year, if the budget was tied to the new way Obama calculates the CPI to screw seniors, it would go a looooong way to fixing the debt problem.

O’Bumble's administration put a 3-year FREEZE - 2010-2012 - on Social Security.
NONE dare call is a CUT. It's only the Republicans that want to cut SS, haven't you heard?

O'BumblesCare cuts $500 BILLION from Medicare...

AHHH - it's the Republicans that want to cut Medicare...just listen to the POTUS.

After 3 years of no COLA, the average Social Security will be about $700+ less per year...every year forward. I'd sure like to have that for oil in the winter.

Can someone explain why that is not a cut?

Why 'certain"?

The administration put a THREE YEAR FREEZE on our social security.

There was not one penny increase last year nor this - and scheduled the same for 2012.

There will be an actual increase in the cost of living - yes - as there was the last two years. But they deliberately left out the cost of things like food, gas, etc....as if they weren't essentials.

I wouldn't bet on a COLA for SS next year....unless it's just enough to then take it away with an increase in the medicare deduction - for the gov't to keep and embezzle.

Absolutely. Rush, Hannity and several conservatives in Congress have been emphasizing that this insane baseline budgeting has put our future deficits/national debt on autopilot. It’s “Bernie Nadoff accounting.” It’s a system in which “cuts” are really just smaller INCREASES in spending.

But if that figure represents a fair cost of living increase for 2008 then they’re still behind the eight-ball. Further, disability is also part of S.S. and we all know medical costs are going through the roof.

Right - he and all his fellow socialists have never run a business or even had employees in the private sector. They’re experts in redistributing wealth but have never created any. The guy running the Dairy Queen down the street has more executive and managerial experience than any of those clowns.

If it were a Republican the media would make a make a TV ad featuring pictures from Auschwitz saying how the GOP wanted to exterminate the elderly. Sort of an expanded version of the one they now run showing grandma being shoved off a cliff in her wheel chair. Even our Democratic senator here in FL (Bill Nelson) was so ashamed he presented a bill in Congress that would give S.S. recipients a $250 increase to help make up for their losses. His fellow Democrats laughed it off the floor.

Good point and don’t forget the 500 billion Obama stole from Medicare for ObamaCare! That’s the sort of government accounting that would put a private citizen CPA in jail!

Good points well made. They know it’s a cut but think we’re too stupid to see what’s obvious.
