Reid Secures More Than $700,000 To Help Nevada Better Manage Its Precious Water Resources

Washington, D.C. – Nevada Senator Harry Reid today announced $714,185 in funding for water resource management in Nevada. The Bureau of Reclamation selected four projects in the state as part of its WaterSMART Program, which assists with water resource management.  In 2009, Senator Reid’s efforts led to the passage of the Omnibus Public Lands Management Act which authorized the Bureau of Reclamation to promote these types of water conservation and efficiency projects.

“I am pleased we are finally having a good water year, but we must continue to conserve and sustain our limited water supplies,” Reid said. “These crucial funds will help ensure that the proper tools and resources are available so Nevadans can use our precious water resources efficiently.”

The four selected projects are:

•    Desert Research Institute in Nevada will receive $199,761 for the evaluation of evapotranspiration and irrigation water requirements in a changing climate.
•    Southern Nevada Water Authority will receive $188,410 to enhance resource management of the Colorado River through understanding changes to water quality and sediment transport in Lake Mead.
•    Desert Research Institute in Nevada will receive $126,014 to develop and evaluate regional climate downscaling techniques that will benefit understanding future surface and groundwater supplies.
•    Southern Nevada Water Authority will receive $200,000 to evaluate impacts of a changing climate on water resources in the Eastern Great Basin and to develop plausible future climate scenarios.

There massive waste of money. None of the climate models are right. But watch, there will be a “WE will all die if..”. More money please.

He’s not even up for reelection until 2016. I think that Las Vegas has always had a serious water problem for years. I don’t know what this money will do about that but something needs to be done.

I see he got his payoff. Let’s see what McConnell and Boehner get for playing along.

Because he is crafty and dirty, Stalin would have done him in first. He would have been too much of a threat down the road if he was in his inner circle.

Is the water pork flavored. Everytime I think about the fact that water costs less in Los Vegas than it cost me where I live, it makes me nuts. I pay for mine and I pay for theirs too.

He should have simply raised Nevada’s taxes to cover their water expenses....or not build one of the ugly monuments to Reid. Lots of places money could be had from.....but then...

"I don’t know what this money will do about that but something needs to be done."

That's an easy guess. First he'll start an agency (which will require more money in the future). That agency will be enforcing water restrictions upon the populace. If you are a farmer in a Democrat precinct, you can irrigate. If you are a farmer in a less than "ideal" district, you may NOT irrigate. Money is about control. it's always about control.

I'll fix Nevada's water problem for $100K.

Turn off the sprinklers on all the golf courses in Vegas.

There, Harry. Now fork bucks.

“Harry Reid puts your children another $700,000 in the hole in order to secure his re-election.”

He will be dead by the time the bill comes due, what doe he care as long as he gets to retain power while he’s alive.

There is a good reason why it is evil for a goverment to obligate a future generation with debt. There is a good reason, your personal debts die with you and your property.

The Federal Government’s “Credit rating” needs to be deliberately trashed if for no other reason then to make it harder for politicians to borrow against our future.

Indeed if they are to spend more money then they get in tax revenue, the excess bill must immediately be distributed among those who voted for them BEFORE the next election.

Of course, a free market in water would solve the problems, but we can’t have that can we? What payola would Harry get from that?
