So now that there is an enhanced security presence at the fair, the wildings will continue across town.

Someone needs to dig out their copy of the old commission report on civil unrest and get a clue.

This crap will continue to escalate until put down hard.

As for the firemen in London, I'm not sure about their equipment, but when I was Fire/EMS, there wasn't much that could stand up to a fire hose. Great crowd control device in a pinch.

Maybe Bernard Geatz was right.

No maybe, imho, 4 attackers with sharpened screwdrivers against one guy.

Pity Colin Fergusson didn't meet a Bernie Goetz on the train.

Thank you for the kind reply.

As for the private sector taking the risk...the main reason most do not take the risk now is because they would be competing against a monopoly that gets to also make the rules of competition. By placing the money into the hands of parents to make the decision, you remove the monopoly. As for the teacher unions, I believe they are all public sector unions not private sector. In fact, I believe you don't even need to be a “certified” teacher in Wisconsin to teach in a private school...you only have to be “certifiable” to be a public school teacher :)

I can picture a time when a person would start a private school that would be staffed with retired or semiretired professionals...business people, engineers, welders, farmers, lawyers, doctors, mechanics, etc...imagine the amount of real world knowledge that could be handed down to the next generation. In this kind of private school a person could take a full load of classes or might only take one or two classes...and home school the rest. The flexibility for the parents and students would be great...as would be the flexibility of the pricing structure for the school. And if the former public school teachers would like to compete, they still could, but they would be competing in the real world against professionals in the field of study.

I have actually had conversations with individuals that would start just such a school but they do not see parents willing to pull their children out of the “free” public school at this time...but if the parent had to make a decision where their child would go to school...everything then opens up.

Being a state issue I don't see Obama as an issue on this one. They kept telling Walker that he could not stop the high speed rail project...but it has been stopped. The states still have a lot of control over themselves if they are willing to assert themselves.

To perhaps jog your memory ... the dog was sitting down in the boat. I *think* it was the USSMinnow rowboat.

Good luck with that, T. Pole!

And watch your mouth. Your resort to name-calling in the face of criticism tells the posters on here exactly where you fall on the political spectrum. Faced with the truth, a true lib will always resort to ad hominem attacks.

And, given the news that the police have decided these attacks will not be classified as a hate crime, I can only say, Way to go! Looks like you’re all over that “clean up”.

A story in the same vein as yours.

I got to know a retired NYPD cop turned construction contractor, who would share stories of his time on the force, and describe some of the behind-the-scene realities that never got reported. At the height of Mayor Giuliani’s push to clean up Times Square, he was stationed in that area. He said they were blunt and vicious in their dealings with the thugs and savages that needed to be moved out of the area. He said to deal with an animal, you have to act like an animal. He recalled one drug dealer who wouldn’t move out told a cop he had bullets wating for the cop and the cop’s wife. The cops cornered the guy and showed him a handful of bullets. They counted each one, telling the guy, “This one’s for you; this one’s for you wife; this one’s for your mother...” Whatever else they said or did, or however they looked or sounded, the guy was gone the next day. This was one of the tamer stories. And while Times Square has slipped some due to the need to pull cops out of the area for patrols related to terror threats, and Mayor Bloomberg has turned the once great “Crossroads of the World” into the world’s biggest food court, Mayor Giuliani and cops like this did clean up what was a human sewer for many years.
There are a lot of stories like this and the one you tell. (A friend told me his NYPD cop father was told to go not for the skull, but for the collarbone with the nighstick). That’s the only way. Like feral animals, they sense fear and attack, and laugh as they’re released back on the street. But, also like feral animals, they know when they’re up against a force that doesn’t go in for the nonsense, and when they’re going to get their heads cracked, so they move along.

So, you saying we have no balls is not name calling?

And as I said, the clean up takes time. You may have heard about another step we took yesterday? Or is observation not your strong suit?

You would be wrong. My guess is you do not hang out social sites. It is eyeopening.

you are right, I do not hang out on social sites (other than FR), dont even have a facebook account. I don’t doubt that there is a lot of back and forth there, maybe it would surprise me how much that interaction would lead to action. I just find it hard to believe that most that have shown up on a video looting/thugging spend much time on-line...

Facebook logs something like 500 billion transactions a day. Yes, that is a “B”.
