Former Obama Economic Adviser on Downgrade: We're 'Pretty Darn [expletive] [profanity in article]

Christina Romer, the former chair of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers on Friday offered a rather strong opinion concerning the announcement by Standard & Poor's that the credit rating agency downgraded America's debt to AA+.

Appearing on HBO's "Real Time," Romer said we're "pretty darn f--ked" (video follows with transcript and absolutely no commentary needed):

----

BILL MAHER, HOST: So, excuse my language, but we used to do a segment on this show called “How F—ked Are We?”

(VIDEO CLIP)

MAHER: I didn’t expect that there. This, just before we went on the air they said our rating got downgraded.

CHRISTINA ROMER, FORMER CHAIR OF THE COUNCIL OF ECONOMIC ADVISERS, OBAMA ADMINISTRATION: So, pretty darned f—ked.

[Laughter and applause]

MAHER: Ooh.

ROMER: I’ve been hanging around Tim Geithner too long.

[Laughter]

MAHER: Why, does he swear like a sailor?

ROMER: Oh, like a seventh grade boy.

The House, under Boehner, passed a plan with bipartisan support that would have averted this downgrade on put us on the right path: "Cut, Cap & Balance" (HR 2560).

What did Obama & the obstructionist Senate say?

Harry Reid: "Over, Done, Dead"

White House: "Duck, Dodge and Dismantle."

Pretty darn glib coming from the women who planned and pushed through the crazy, irresponsible, and ineffective spending explosion that is responsible for America, “being pretty darn F**ked, giggle, giggle”
Reading the transcript, it's obvious that Maher set her up for the line. Wouldn't be surprised if they rehearsed it.

Essentially, the execrable Maher put the words in her mouth. But she's a fool for mouthing them.

That's not the point. The point is that Christine Romer was one of the Obama Administrations top Board Of Economic Ad visors.

She resigned because as she put it, “our policies have not worked and we really did not understand e=what we were doing” after pushing through a TRILLION dollar “Stimulus” which has made our economy worse and has squandered, mostly for political payoff, not economic benefit, pretty much all the assets available to help work us out of this serious economic downturn.

SHE is as personally responsible for the misery that is about to descend on this country as is any one single person can be.

I am brought to tears thinking of how many families are going to lose their home, jobs and life savings because of her ill conceived waste of a frickin trillion dollars, the single biggest wasted financial expenditure in world history, that consumed all of this countries financial reserves and devoured it's economic seed corn.

She exhibits no shame, no remorse and most of all no empathy for the misery that she has caused and is going to cause millions of American and actually giggles like a little girl the we are ,"pretty darn F**ked" like it is funny. I wonder if all of the children's lives that she has ruined and going to giggle while their lives are "pretty darn F**ked"

This is the real world where your actions have consequences, not some University coffee house where you debate whether you deserved a A or a B on an exam, and you don't get partial credit for destroying the worlds largest economy

Treasury Sec. Geithner compared to a 7th grade boy by Obama’s former chief economic advisor? Good stuff.

That's not the point.

Yes, it was the point. Her line wasn't spontaneous and it was pre-planned is the only point I was making.

You were making the larger point. And I didn't dispute it.

So, why criticize me?

Not criticizing you, I’m criticizing her.

She is on the hook for one of the biggest F**kups in human history. One that resulted in the waste of one trillion dollars, and may intimately result in the collapse of the world economy, and she GIGGLES. She shows no remorse, no empathy for misery she has caused and she giggles for gosh sakes, she just giggles

At least Stalin didn't giggle about what he did to the kulaks

We were f——d when the election was conceded by McCain.

The Tea Party should start calling this the Obama/McCain administration.

Sad thing is I know people, that even today, said the only way out of this economy is to spend more.

Hello? Spend more? Allrighty then ~ when we can’t pay our bills without borrowing, we really spend a lot more money because that’s the only way out......not so much.

I thought by now these idiots would have woken up.

Has it occurred to you that she might be too stupid to recognize her culpability?

It's my observation that there is a gob of expensive education -- but little in the way of intelligence -- in this administration.

I don't know if it's ironical but Romer argued in her doctoral thesis that FDR's policies did not bring an end to the depression. She said when Hitler invaded Poland European money began flowing into U.S. banks and markets. Britain froze bank accounts at one point to stem to drain.

Right there is the measure of that asshole’s audience.

_______________________________________________________________________

President Hoover, Mr. Chief Justice, my friends:

This is a day of national consecration. And I am certain that on this day my fellow Americans expect that on my induction into the Presidency, I will address them with a candor and a decision which the present situation of our people impels.

This is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. Nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. This great Nation will endure, as it has endured, will revive and will prosper.

So, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself — nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life, a leadership of frankness and of vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. And I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.

From President Franklin Delano Roosevelt's March 3 1933 First Inaugural Address

http://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/fdrfirstinaugural.html

Contrast that with this from Romer and Maher

>> Maher: “How F—ked Are We?”
>> Romer: “So, pretty darned f—ked. Giggle giggle”
>> audience: [Laughter and applause]

From Christina Romer, ex chair of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers August 8 2011

Never before in history has the US had a debt down grade. Even during the worst days of the Great Depression And the failed Ex CHAIR of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers, who Quarterbacked Obama's economic policies for the first half of the Administration, goes on the Maher show (bad judgment under any circumstances for some one at the level of an ex chair of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers) and tells the world that the US economy is “pretty darn F**ked. giggle giggle”

What is the rest of the world going to think about this and what kind of a vote of confidence give in the stability of the US Economy and Monetary system at a very critical time?

What kind of people do we have running our country?

I'm speechless in shock. This is so wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to begin to to evaluate the damage this moron has done to our country and is continuing to do.

Stupid is just part of it.

Actually it has occurred to to me that she is a stupid, irresponsible, immature arrested adolescent with a clinical psychopathic personality disorder who has no remorse nor empathy for those who she has inflected misey upon.

She was also the CHAIRPERSON (ie the head) of Obama’s Council of Economic Advisers.

She is also probably one of the more competent and of a higher caliber and class than the rest of the people who are running the Obama government

Be afraid, be very afraid

>> This is so wrong on so many levels

Your disgust is the imperative that will ensure our nations freedom and prosperity.

BTW, if I’m not mistaken, the famous phrase, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”, was provided by Napoleon Hill.

Ask yourself: will their madness trump your desire for liberty? Indeed, we have nothing to fear.
