The Power of Bad Ideas
Wall Street Journal ^ | 8/6/11 | Peggy Noonan

What we've got here is far worse than a failure to communicate.

There was drama at the White House this week when a man tried to hurl himself over the fence. But the Secret Service intervened and talked the president into going back inside and finishing his term.

That's from Conan O'Brien's monologue the other night. It captures the moment pretty well. Mr. Obama's poll numbers continue to fall, his position in the battleground states to deteriorate. From Politico: "Obama emerges from the months-long [debt ceiling] fracas weaker—and facing much deeper and more durable political obstacles—than his own advisers ever imagined." The president seemed to admit as much when he met with ...

Behind the Wall Street Journal paywall, for now. Good article. Worth reading, if you can.

"When I said 'Change we can believe in,' I didn't say, 'Change we can believe in tomorrow.' Not 'Change we can believe in next week.' We knew this was going to take time."

For once Obama is right! It took 928 days for S&P to report on a change we can actually believe in!

In the beginning, America tried liberty from oppressive government, freedom of individual enterprise and Adam Smith's ideas, gleaned from his "Enquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations."

"Ideas have consequences." - Weaver

The consequences of America's founding ideas included, among other things, opportunity for the poor and oppresssed, productivity, prosperity, plenty, and a place where individuals from every nation in the world could flee for over 200 years.

Today, after a few decades of the so-called "progressive" influence (actually a regressive idea), we find ourselves among that great group of nations whose flirtation with and implementation of the counterfeit ideas of Mao/Marx/Lenin and Keynes have led to loss of freedom for individuals, disappearing wealth and prosperity, and want.

It is time for the youth of America to study and rediscover the ideas of liberty which made America a great beacon for liberty and opportunity. Technology has made it possible for them to read the writings and speeches and documents of their liberty online--materials which were censored from their textbooks and public places by the "progressives" who wished to gain control of places of power.

Concurring great-idea bump. These ideas used to be taught beginning in the second or third grade. Now kids get lessons in condom manipulation.

The NC legislature passed a bill requiring the teaching of the founding documents in NC high schools. Believe the American Legislative Exchange Council is pushing such legislation in other states. You might want to check it out in your state. Of course, the key will be the curriculum, and how teachers teach it.

For whatever reason, when I googled Peggy Noonan, and hit the link to this article, I did not have to pay. It appears that the veneer has indeed started to wear thin, even for Noonan.
