KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - A military helicopter was shot down in eastern Afghanistan, killing 31 U.S. special operation troops, most of them from the elite Navy SEALs unit that killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, along with seven Afghan commandos. It was the deadliest single incident for American forces in the decade-long war.
The Taliban claimed they downed the helicopter with rocket fire while it was taking part in a raid on a house where insurgents were gathered in the province of Wardak late Friday.
Rocket —uh-huh.
More like an on-board bomb, I think.
Yeah, I’m inclined to believe that one of our afghan “allies” knowsmore than he is telling..
It’s so convenient that these guys died right after The Downgrade.
Other reports say the SEALS were not from Seal Team 6. Sloppy reporting really pisses me off. Whoever made the false reports needs to be identified and punished.
OMG! We must have done with these lunatics. Just cluster bomb the F out of them while trying to avoid collateral damage,if any, and be done with it. That includes all those countries that harbor extremists.
sounds like the mission was compromised and they flew into a trap.
This is terrible, nor do I think it was “just an accident” these Navy Seals were murdered.
The ONLY silver lining I can see is an answer to the question many of us have been asking ourselves over the past couple of years.....
If barry demands our OWN military to squash and fire at the American people, this incident (we all know THEY know what truly happened), I highly doubt OUR military does NOT see who the true ENEMY of our country really is.
.......It’s name is TOTUS. We know it and I believe our military knows it as well. If they didn’t before, they do now.
Well we don’t really know enough to second-guess this operation, and most likely we never will know enough.
But I can’t help wondering if it was Obama’s constrictive Rules of Engagement that kept them from simply bombing the hell out of the house where the terrorist leaders were from 20,000 feet, instead of going in to assault or capture them.
And it also seems curious that they would mix their top force of Seals with a bunch of Afghan troops, who don’t have the training for this sort of thing. Kind of bringing them along as mascots. It might make sense in an ordinary engagement, but it’s hard to see how it makes sense in an operation like this.
Earlier replies have already raised the possibility that one of them sabotaged the operation. It wouldn’t be the first time. If this operation was so delicate that it required our top Seals to handle it, then there should have been no thought of using it to give Afghan troops training experience.
It’s misleading to call this a crash. A crash is different from being shot down, isn’t it?
Prayers for them all, including the dog.
On-board bomb or rocket, when will the usurper hold a presser stating he loaded it and pulled the trigger?
this morning around 9AM EST a woman i see in the pool at the gym every so often, and speak with each time i see her, told me about this...
her daughter is a Captain in the Marines and has been in the service for almost a decade now- her best friend in the service, a girl from Pennsylvania whom i believe she said is a Marine, was one of the soldiers killed in this attack- she said her daughter called in the wee hours crying hysterically about the situation...
evidently the girl KIA was a gem- this woman from the gym (her name is Krystal) told me she had met her on several occasions (Marine graduations/Marine marathons she attended for her daughter)...in fact the she (woman killed in the attack) was in NYC several months ago when the daughter threw a surprise 50th anniversary party for her parents....very sad...
Gee I hope it didn’t mess up the rose garden BBQ with the news.
‘Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.’
“I highly doubt OUR military does NOT see who the true ENEMY of our country really is.”
Which is why they will remain marooned in all these Fumbuk, Turdistan locations.
There was a recent article here posted about the overseas deployment being downgraded from 1 year to nine months.
It may take a while, but I do believe their eyes are beginning to open......WIDE, just have ours.
Sad. We’re going to come to some accomodation in the next year or two, and then we’re going to leave.
All this loss will be for nothing.
>> Its so convenient that these guys died right after The Downgrade.
And since when is Obama so quick to respond to casualties of Military personnel?
