Obama’s and Bush’s effects on the deficit in one graph
Washington Post ^ | 7/25/2011 | Ezra Klein

What’s also important, but not evident, on this chart is that Obama’s major expenses were temporary — the stimulus is over now — while Bush’s were, effectively, recurring. The Bush tax cuts didn’t just lower revenue for 10 years. It’s clear now that they lowered it indefinitely, which means this chart is understating their true cost. Similarly, the Medicare drug benefit is costing money on perpetuity, not just for two or three years. And Boehner, Ryan and others voted for these laws and, in some cases, helped to craft and pass them.

How hypocritical for the Democrats to blame Bush for the Medicare drug benefit, when they demanded an even BIGGER one at the time! Remember all the talk of the donut hole that Democrats wanted to plug from the beginning?

Did not the Democrats in Congress vote to authorize the Afghanistan and Iraq wars? I seem to recall they did.

And how do the liberals claim to “know” the cost of the Bush tax cuts? How do they know that without the tax cuts, the economy would not have been worse because of the higher tax burden, with lost revenue to the government?

Also, the ENTIRE cost of TARP and the stimulus programs should be laid at the feet of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, the Clinton era affirmative-action housing market social engineers, and yes the senator who took the most money from Fannie Mae and had the closest relationship to the ACORN housing market-breakers, Senator Barack Hussein Obama of Illinois. Mmmmm, mmmmm, mmmmm!!

The chart is pure demagoguery, but then that is the Dems’ stock in trade.

Bush spent like a drunken sailor. We all know that. This chart provides evidence of it.

What Obama has done is take all that Bush spending and then add even more on top of that. If the cost of Obamacare were added to the graph along with the costs of complying with all of Obama's new regulations, the real truth would become more evident.

Bottom line: Bush was bad, Obama has been exponentially worse.

They are such frauds. In 2009 when the Democrats took over the Congress and the Presidency they could have altered the tax code and any previous law from the Bush era. But, they didn’t so that means they excepted those laws and tax levies as good. To say that those laws are bad now is to admit their incompetency back then for their failure to alter them.

Klein was the ringleader of the journo-list email group, which openly coordinated “objective” press attacks on the GOP and Tea Party types. He is serious scum, and it says a lot about the Washington Post these days that he’s still working there.

And just what does it say about the WaPo, that I knew the totally irrational outcome of this article by just reading the headline?

Your right your right and your right. The people who only get there 10 minutes of news from the lamestream media, if that much, will never know that. I’m trying to educate some friends, we will see how well this goes...lol Could be good, or someone might just get an attitude.

I never thought any FReeper was gullible enough to cite statistics from Ezra Klein.

The Class of 1998 is really starting to lose it.

Tax cuts do not cause deficits.

Tax cuts do not cause deficits.

Tax cuts do not cause deficits.

This is so friggin old I want to puke. The ONLY thing that can cause deficits is spending. If you have ZERO taxes, you have no deficit if you don't spend.

This just is a WAY too obvious effort on the part of Obama fans who don’t want to believe that “their” president is doing most of the same things as the president they hated. President Bush brought us to the edge of the cliff, and they’re unable to see that O is happily hanging off our necks trying to pull us right off.

So this means Ezra Klein is a Tea Party supporter and wants to cut EvilBush’s overspending?

It was the Dems who insisted on covering first dollar rather than wait to kick in after a certain point.

Bush spent like a drunken sailor.

Major difference -- Drunken sailors are spending their own money.
