Agree, take out “lack of” and it makes more sense but I got the gist of it. I’m not an English major which for writing is more or less an opinion.
I think he meant to say that our "confidence" is crippled, and that would make sense. The reason people lack faith in their leaders is because those "leaders" won't leave them alone to live in peace and freedom. Instead of supporting our Constitution and promoting our nation's values, they choose to tax us abusively, spend our money wildly, feed the power of government obsessively - and then have the audacity to blame us for the results of what they are doing.
"Pre-revolutionary" is right.
You're right, he has it backwards. It should read "Our confidence in our leadership...". It's like an "I could care less" remark...
