London is reeling from three nights of rioting that's poured hundreds of people into the streets, leaving several local neighborhoods in shambles. One man is dead, dozens injured and arrested.
The protests have now spread to other cities, with violence reported in parts of Birmingham, Liverpool and Bristol.
Great Britain and other parts of the world are experiencing unrest at a time of global economic uncertainty and stock market volatility.
Here's a look at what's happening around the world and how economic downturns are bringing protestors into the streets.
Great Britain
Police in London say the violence began during a vigil for a man, Mark Duggan, whod been killed by police. However, those on the streets say what's happening goes beyond one man's death.
In late June, half the public schools in Britain where closed by a massive protest over public pensions cuts, including three major teachers' unions, customs and immigration officers, and air traffic controllers. Some 750,000 people took part in the protest.
London's press has reported that discontent has been simmering among Britain's urban poor for years, in neighborhoods like Tottenham, where the riots started.
But as one man told NBC News about an economic protest two months ago, "There was not a word in the press about our protests. Last night (Saturday) a bit of rioting and looting and now look around you."

Never heard of it. So I looked it up, ROFL. These people do not know enough to know when to walk away from fantasy land. Looking for solutions in all the wrong places and for all the wrong reasons. It only confirms my outlook at humanity at this point. It’s not pretty.
Most of this is dispossessed peoples revolting against the governments that have betrayed them. Native populations have been impoverished by a combination of trade policies and financial industry fraud, and the remaining jobs in their home countries are filled by imported labor from abroad, by people who share no values with the displaced natives. Did they think the people they miseducated and gave no hope of productive employment - the dole being so much more profitable - were just going to disappear? This is the inevitable result of the betrayal of the lower and middle classes.
The looting of nations’ economies for the benefit of a handful of elites is running its full course. People are asking the question why they should follow the law when their leaders do not and their institutions do not. They got no good answer now they’re trying to get a bit of what they could never have in the status quo.
(As an aside, what is going on in Israel is not the same as what you see in the UK, Spain, Greece, Egypt, Syria and other nations. In Israel it’s just a leftist movement trying to capitalize on the legitimacy of the “Arab Spring”.)
And some actually wonder why I’ve been stocking up on ammo-!! Human nature rarely varies-!!
Please do, Grasshoppers.
We've got something saved up especially for you.
I remember telling one of my liberal pals when we first discussed politics about 8 years ago . . . “If we lose the culture, we’ll lose our country”
I could tell it hit home with him. He paused and reflected . . decent guy and I could tell he had been taking things here for granted. He’s still a liberal in his mind, but you should hear him talk now.
